My Status just changed to ISSUED!

Background: Chinese citizen with Canadian PR, PhD from USA, scientist in Canada, EB1A, application with spouse (also Chinese citizen with Canadian PR)

Timeline:

Priority date: 08/2020 (from NIW)

EB1A approved: 10/2022

NVC DQ: 03/2023

Interview: 09/16/2024, DS5535 requested (only me), CV taken during interview, passport returned
Passport request: 11/04/2024

Issued: 12/02/2024

I had Canada Post for passport return. Should I call them to ask for premium service? Any suggestion is much appreciated!

Congratulations! I’m glad to hear you’re not experiencing any pain. It must have been frustrating to feel unable to make decisions for your life or understand why you had to wait +six weeks, especially after they requested your passport.

Hey Angie!
Congrats. I just recently went through the same thing. Send an inquiry to this email address:

canada.visas@gdit-gss.com

They helped me change my address of destination from Canada post to my residential address. I did however, pay for the courier service 4 months ago or whenever I scheduled my interview.

They may just need to bounce you around a few departments.

But they were quite helpful with getting shipping sorted.

Thanks for your suggestion Andrew!

I have just sent an email to the address mentioned. Hopefully, they will respond to me fast.

Also, on the ais.us-visa.com, I still have the "Request Premium Delivery" button available. Can I just upgrade to premium courier service using that?

Oh! I’d definitely try that!

I paid for premium delivery beforehand so I never had to deal with that. This might be the most straight forward solution…

Purolator delay: we sent our passport for visa stamping though Purolator. We are getting this message. Has anybody had any recent experience with Purolator? Is it because of the increased volume because of the Canada Post strike?

Delayed in transit due to missed connection."

Light at the end of the tunnel!  Here is our process…

06/26/2022 - Initial K-1 application received at USCIS

01/23/23 - Interview in Montreal (Consular Officer said she was approved)

02/14/2023 - Receive DS-5535

10/11/2023 - Consulate requests passport, updated medical exam be submitted

11/05/2023 - Documents sent to consulate

11/29/2023 - CEAC Status shows “Approved”

12/02/2023 - CEAC Status shows “Issued” - Amy gets email with tracking info for her passport

We did get success reaching out to our local Senator.  I would send an email to him and within 12 hours I would get a response from a member of his staff.  Then within 24 hours, our case had gone to the next step.  Good luck to all who are stuck in this mess, but know you will get through it!

It’s puzzling why someone like a congressman would need to call them and then they take action on the cases. This seems odd, and I couldn’t quite understand it.

Mine took almost that from DS-5535 submission to passport/medical request and that was after multiple congressional inquiries.

Hi! We have been in AP since 1/15/24 (IR5). I asked my congresswoman to help but this is what they said:  "Unfortunately, administrative processing prohibits us from inquiring further about the status of the case. Additionally, we are unable to provide a timeline as to when the administrative processing will be complete."

Update.

After the status changed to "ISSUED" on Dec 2nd, I applied for upgrade to Premium Courier Service on ais.usvisa-info.com for both me and my spouse. Delivery to door costs CA$26 each, so CA$52 for us.

I also contacted the email address provided by Andrew and received their response on Dec 3rd saying my issue has been resolved. I replied to confirm if my upgrade request actually went through since it was submitted after issue. My CEAC also had an update on Dec 3rd.

This morning (Dec 4th, 9 am), I received 2 emails from donotreply@usvisa-info.com and Purolator, providing me with the tracking number of my passport shipment. It has not been shipped as of now, but likely to be shipped later today or tomorrow.

So, yes, it is totally fine to request upgrade to premium courier service after issuance of visa, but it is definitely better to do it quick.
