K1 Interview, London. 221g Birth Certificate.

Hi

Yesterday i had my interview for the K1 Visa in London, everything went really well, at the end of the interview she told me she believes our relationship is genuine. When I gave her my birth certificate, she asked me “Have i had another birth certificate before” I said “Yes but i lost it, i understand the long birth certificate was needed so i went to the registrar office last week and got a brand new one” she said okay.

She then confirmed her opinion on our relationship but she gave me a 221g form, she ticked administrative processing, and nothing else is ticked. She said “I highly doubt you will have to submit anything to us, but we will contact you soon” I questioned if everything was okay and she said “We just need to do some more background checks and this is normal” and then she kept my birth certificate and my passport.

I am a little confused, Im assuming it has something to do with my birth certificate being brand new? i’m not sure why would that be a reason though, i’ve spoke to some others online and they have told me they might just need to authenticate it, hence why they have kept the birth certificate.

This is normal.  All cases go through some form of Administrative Processing.  What is your country of origin?

When I started the process I got 6 long form BCs, they were not new, well new to me, not a late registration.

I forget how it goes now, did you submit a short form previously?

No, During I129F i submitted my passport bio page copy.

At Embassy i brought my BC, which was brand new and long form version.

As you said, I think it's to do with your BC being brand new. I'm in the same boat as you and will need to get a new copy of my long form BC. Please come back to us and let us know what happens, I'll be following this for my own info. :)

Having looked at the online request form today, it appears that anyone can get a copy of anyone's BC so long as they know the birth name, sex, birth year and parents names at time of birth, and have it sent to any name/address.

Seems pretty vulnerable to ID fraud, if you ask me, so it doesn't surprise me they will want to make 100% sure you are the person detailed on the new BC.

Good luck!

Just to add my experience, my fiance also interviewed in London. He only had the short form so he got his long form reissued months ago, as we knew he would need it and it doesn't expire (like an ACRO would). He had his reissued about 3 months before the interview and had no issues.

It might be because it was just issued a week before the interview, and combined with what the person above said, definitely probably raised a (reasonable) red flag. If that is the case it probably is just as simple as verifying the validity of the document :)
