Hi community,

Thank you ahead of time for your help.

I am expecting my green card in October of this year, currently outside of the US - based on a petition from my child who is a US citizen (naturalized). I have a minor child living out of the US with me (6 year old). What are my options for the child to travel with me? I've done some research and found some options but maybe I'm missing something. My goal is to be able for my child to be reunited with me in the US as soon as I get there or even be able to travel with me?

1) I know I can file a I-130 once my green card is approved. But seems that might take a while?

2) I could apply for my non-US citizen minor child (6 yo) for a non-immigrant visa. Any cases where they might be admitted with me to the US? I would apply for readjustment for status once I am in the US for my minor child?

3) Any options im missing?

Student Visa?

Think it is 4 years ish for a LPR to sponsor a child.

2. Even if your child could get some kind of NIV (very unlikely IMO), that would be immigration fraud, so not possible.

I don’t see any route other than petitioning him/her yourself which will take several years. You could move, then get a re-entry permit perhaps to minimise time apart?

1. Correct way

2. Dead end.

3. None. Best is 1

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.
