Hey Guys,

this forum is awesome so i thought i would give it a try long story short my wife and i have been married for 8 years as of today

it was long distance marriage because of my job. We visited regularly monthly and spent a lot of time during covid lock down together.

i have basic evidence such as photos life insurance policy credit card statements. I drive back and forth from Toronto to ny so there really isn't much else.

Any help or suggestions would be awesome thanks again!

Read the instructions for the I130 form and the information on the full process on this webpage and also on the govt site

Keep coming back here to ask for specific info or questions , clarifications etc. Good luck.

i guess i don't know what evidence to submit.

what did you submit?

What have you done in 8 years of marriage to commingle the marriage?  Do you have wills or living wills?  Have you filed taxes showing yourself married?  Have you created a joint bank account?

You can only submit evidence you have, but I would say being married for 8 years is a definite plus even with it being a long distance marriage.  You might have more photos or chats considering the length of the marriage, I would focus on the more recent material.

Good Luck!

You have more than enough but you also have some time before the interview

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You can, but joint accounts etc are expected when adjusting status in the US, not consular processing CR1 / IR1 visa

Sounds like enough at this point.  All you really need to file the I130 is a marriage certificate, you can add more evidence when the petition reaches the NVC stage.

Good Luck!

You are in good track boss, include joint financial accounts, shared property ownership, photos together for all your 8 eight years together in many places, and affidavits from family and friends.

Good luck.

Filing online allows you to add additional evidence.  It is taking around 13 months for I130's to be approved, so in that time you can be uploading more evidence.

I know you read on here about stacks of evidence you have to provide - I don't believe it's necessary when the evidence is strong.  I'm not dissimilar - hubs and I had been together for years before we'd filed, so it seems really difficult because you just take your daily life for granted.  Don't stress too much!

Our income tax were filed as married.  We had each other listed as beneficiaries of our respective pensions, retirement savings plans and life insurance policies.  We had credit cards with one another listed as authorized users.  We had each other listed as drivers on respective vehicle insurance plans.  We had some plane ticket stubs and hotel receipts - not many because we usually shredded them, thinking why would we need this in addition to personal data security.  We had some photos from trips we took (not tons) and I have kids so we were fortunate enough to have photos where the school visitor name tag and date were visible when we were attending events. Quality and legitimacy of evidence will win every time.

Good luck!
