When I was living in Ottawa and had to go to the doctors, for example, patients from Quebec (lots of francophones in ottawa) had to pay I think 20 or 25 bucks to see the doctor when presenting their health card. So it can't be 100% impossible, can it? :unsure:

I knew there was something fishy...why wouldn't you just pay the 300 bucks to get your arms fixed if that was the case? You didn' have money but you could afford the bus ride from collingwood? HMMM! some one IS pulling a fast one!

maybe he didn't have enough money to pay the doctor bill plus pay for the bus...

he would still need to get home after he got his arm fixed...

Something doesn't sound right! I'm sure the hospital isn't just going to turn him away!! On my EMT course here in VA a few yrs back, rode around with an ambulance crew. Took a few people into emergency, and they took his info right there at the hospital bed, and right away they could tel he didn't have insurance and had a previous bill, so it was obvious he wasn't going to pay, lol but they still had to treat him! I know if I went to the hospital and was in lots of pain, I would be letting someone know,not catching a bus,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Well yeah of course they will treat you in the US, so that they can charge you a million dollars afterwards :lol: But yes, that is the law. But that is US law. If someone can quote Canadian law when it comes to that it would be very cool to see what it says.

And then you get hit with the hefty bill...

Its not totally un-heard of for an Ontario hospital to ask for payment of patients who do not have an OHIP card, but that person usually gets fired later, and the patient can usually get reimbursement from their own provincial health office.

A friend of mine from the U.S. needed to get treated in Ontario during a visit. They didn't charge her at the time, just sent her an invoice by mail.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

That is every province actually. I think abou ####### sometimes here in the US too. I was an honest person and gave them my actual address in Canada to contact me with the bill. But what if I gave them a faulty address? Would they ever find me? :lol: Hard to tell....I could disappear essentially. Happens all the time.
