American wife, living in Canada. Best procedure to live and work in the USA?

Hi all.

My wife and I live in Canada. She is American, I am Canadian.  We want to move to the US to be close to family.

What is the best and fastest way we can do this? I am so confused with all the visas etc.

I think we need to start with an I-130 but that’s all I know so far.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We are not apposed for my wife to go to the US alone if she finds the right job but not for an extended time obviously.

Regards!

I forgot to add that I want to work in the US and not be a kept man😂

Typically, a K-1 fiancé(e) visa allows for quicker entry into the United States, whereas a marriage-based visa (also called a spouse visa) accelerates the green card process. The processing time for a K-1 visa application (Form I-129F) is 8.6 and the processing time for a CR-1 spousal green card is 10.8.

Good luck boss.

Thanks, so a CR-1 is the best bet and not a I-130, hmm....

The First Step Toward an Immigrant Visa: Filing the Petition

The first step is to file a Petition for Alien Relative, Form I-130, with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for your spouse (husband or wife) to immigrate to the United States. For instructions on how to file a petition, including where you should send the petition, see the USCIS website.

You start with the I130 which leads you to getting the Cr1 or Ir1 visa.  Cr1 is for couples that have been married less than 2 years. After the I130 is approved is when you apply for the Cr1 or Ir1.

I thought the K-1 was for fiancee's not couples that are already married.....Am I wrong?  Thanks for your time :)

Correct K-1s are for fiancees.

Thanks for confirming this with the OP. Someone was spreading misinformation and arguing with me.  Hence the reason the admin removed the comments.

Good luck boss.

That’s just the processing time for the petition, by the way. It’s another 6-8 months for the rest of the process and the interview in Montreal.
