Texas, other GOP-led states sue over program to give immigrant spouses of US citizens legal status

“This action incentivizes illegal immigration and will irreparably harm the Plaintiff states,” the suit filed in federal court in Tyler, Texas, says.

Under the policy, which started taking applications Monday, many spouses without legal status can apply for something called “parole in place,” offering permission to stay in the U.S., apply for a green card and eventually get on a path to citizenship.

But the program has been particularly contentious in an election year where immigration is one of the biggest issues, with many Republicans attacking the policy and contending it is essentially a form of amnesty for people who broke the law.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement Friday that the plan “violates the Constitution and actively worsens the illegal immigration disaster that is hurting Texas and our country.”

The headline is misleading, but they are talking about the extended Parole in Place. I 601a still is available.

Let's just reward those who broke the law and make it very very very very very inconvenient, no, devastating for those who are doing things legally. Sure I am sympathetic for each case is different, such a broken system that said.

The I 601a is still around, they could have just speeded that up.

The title is completely misleading and typical of how activists lie to people, the program is to give ILLEGAL immigrants that are spouses of citizens legal status. Word games like this are how activists manipulate people into supporting something which they otherwise wouldn't.

I think I read that a Texas judge has blocked this for now.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Ken Paxton is right. I get so furious when I see illegal immigrants being handed everything on a silver platter and people like myself and most people on here spending a lot of time and money and gaining a lot of grey hairs from the stress from doing it the right way, including having to pay double the fees since April 1st so that they can process the illegals for free. The immigration process is hard, you have to really want to work for it but that is the way it should be, as much as I would love to get that green card handed over for free!

This nonsense will be over after November the 5th.
