I was just getting ready to make the switch to Voip (because my introductory period with Comcast DV is over) and I had it suggested that a good Voip service provider was Sun Rocket. I went to the website and they shutdowm 3 weeks ago.

Now I am looking for new suggestions....

YMMV

What's wrong with good `ol Skype? :D You can get those VOIP phones now that you don't need your computer on to use it, and acts like a normal landline phone for normal calls. I have not got one yet (I have a basic Cyberphone thingy), but my grandfather is always going on about how great it is. So much for old folks being behind on the times  sometimes he's more technologically switched on than I am and I love gadgets...

Another vote for Skype. Has saved me a fortune and I have never had a problem with it.

I want one of those phones which connects straight to the router without having the computer on. They look great.....

Another vote for vonage.. 30$ a month and unlimited calls to US & Canada..

Love it.. except for the fact that sometimes it dropps calls.. kinda annoying.. and there is a delay of a few seconds when you call someone for the other end to hear your voice..

but it's 30$ a month for all the long distance we could ever want!!

Yeah, except I have no need to call Canada and I have free domestic LD on my mobile.... If I could find a provider that has free LD to Ukraine I will be all over it.....

YMMV

Vonage does offer low long distance rates as well.. i know it's 2 cents a minute to the UK i believe.

I absolutely agree... I use vonage and it is .20 cents per minute to call Ghana so that's not so bad, considering. I limit my bill to $100 per month of International calls and after that, I buy calling cards...

I have finally met my love and my best friend... I can't thank God enough for this gift! After spending 17 days in Ghana with my love, I am even more consumed by him and all that he is.

I remember checking these rates a while back but settled on Union telecom phone cards at $0.089 per minute to landlines and $0.105 to mobile ....

Skype has the same offer... except the $30 is for an entire year.

Never used Vonage, but Skype served us well (even though it has, at times, the same problems you've had)

Vonage also comes with a whole lot of features that usually cost extra.... voice mail, call forwarding, call waiting, call display etc...

my vote is for skype. I have comcast DV now but before that, we used skype tons and tons.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Another vote for Vonage here! I'm actually still using my Canadian account and just got a virtual number tacked on for my U.S. area code.
