I just unexpectedly received my 10 year greencard in the mail after filing for ROC in January 2023. I submitted my N-400 on 9/4/24. I feel like this was such a waste of time on their part (and money on mine). I would've preferred they review the N-400 rather than the I-751. 🫠

They cannot approve N-400 without approving I-751 first. Congrats!

Is this actually true? I would think they just administratively close the I-751 after N-400 approval, same as they do with the I-131 and I-765 if the green card is approved before they are.

Also, really nice to just come here and see such fast timelines after having slogged through our I-129F during the pandemic.

Absolutely.

There's a reason that I-751s exist.

You can't naturalize before they have given a second look at the bona fides of your marriage.

Yes it is actually true. It does get decided and approved before N-400 can be approved. Sometimes it happens with combo interview, other times without. Many times you won't get 10 year GC, and many times online status for I-751 remains in pending state despite somebody naturalizing. But behind the scenes, I-751 was decided.
