Interview Amsterdam or Frankfurt?

Hi all. I've finally been DQ'd. In my online case it says case Amsterdam. In my email today I received as well "you've been DQ'd. And we'll work with the embassy Amsterdam to schedule an interview for you". Not sure if this is a standard mail.

However, I've read that the interviews now take place in Frankfurt and you can now schedule it yourself?

Let me know please :)

Thank you.

Never heard of a CR-1/IR-1 case self-scheduling.  NVC schedules interviews.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I've read many experiences of people having to do that now. This changed May 2024. A few countries in Europe had changed to Frankfurt.

Can you post some links to cases here on VJ in which a person scheduled their own spousal visa interview?  I'm interested in seeing them.  The cases I recall were either scheduled by NVC or by the consulate after a country change.

Haven't read them here but on Facebook. Was just wondering if anyone else here did the same.

NVC schedules spousal visa interviews.....I may have seen consulates schedule them after a country change.

If you request an NVC expedite for a spouse visa (IR1/CR1), then you can schedule the interview yourself.  Similar to how K1 visas work.  At least that is what happens at the Seoul Embassy in Korea, but I would assume it happens at other embassies too.

That can be a good or bad thing, as there are only so many open slots each month for self-scheduling.  So you have to go online everyday for weeks searching for slots as soon as they open up.  Thus you might get in faster than others, or maybe not.

Thanks.  I think it depends on the consulate. It would have to be an approved expedite (which the OP didn't mention).

As of May 2024, the U.S Embassies Zagreb, Croatia; Bratislava, Slovakia; Ljubljana Slovenia; Nicosia, Cyprus; and the U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam, the Netherlands will cease routine immigrant visa (IV) services. The U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt has been designated to conduct IV services for these posts in the following categories: immediate relative, family preference, employment based, fiancée/fiancé (K), follow-to-join asylees/refugees (V92/V93), and diversity visas (DV). For more information, visit the following website.

NVC probably hasn't updated its form letter yet, but it looks like you will do the process in Frankfurt.

Yep I read that as well and I noticed that when I had my K1 interview in Amsterdam in January and wanted to see if I could reschedule the appointment (because my medical exam was so close to my interview) that there were no slots left, not even months later. Back then I didn't understand that but makes sense after hearing you have to g to Frankfurt now. I am so glad I was able to do it in Amsterdam still, Frankfurt is quite the drive. No idea why they did that but it is what it is. You get a lot of contradictory information in this process is my experience. I needed to send in my stuff to the US Embassy in Wassenaar for my appointment to be made by them but when it came to scheduling the interview I had to do it myself and could only pick Amsterdam even though I could pick Wassenaar as an option earlier in the process somewhere and had to send in my stuff there. Below the letter I received from the US Consulate in Amsterdam. At my actual interview I learned from the girl who interviewed me that everything just gets sent through the Embassy first for screening before forwarding it to the Consulate but they do not do any immigrant interviews there. When it comes to this process, don't assume anything. You will likely be asked to send in information to the US Embassy in Wassenaar so they can send it to the consulate in Amsterdam to be forwarded to Frankfurt to be scheduled an appointment there. Confusing but that is what I expect. I hope that will not delay things for you, I found the US Consulate in Amsterdam to be pleasant, smooth and quick.

Dear Fiancé visa applicant:
This office received a petition entitling you to a K1 fiance visa classification as an alien proceeding to the United States to marry, or join the spouse, of a U.S. citizen.
In this letter you get instructions on steps you need to take before we can schedule your interview
Please follow the steps below before your interview:
1. Complete the DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Application form at ceac.state.gov and print the "Confirmation page” with a barcode.
2. Verify you have all the original documents + a photocopy (see document checklist on page 2).
3. Send your “appointment request”, see last page, to our office (mailing address: Immigrant Visa Unit, John Adams Park 1 2244 BZ Wassenaar)
a. Include a copy of the bio page of your passport
b. Include the confirmation page from step 1 (don’t include any other documents).
Only when we receive the “appointment request” we will schedule your appointment.
Please note:
 after you’ve received your appointment all applicants will need to complete several more steps and undergo a medical examination.
 Do not contact this office unless you have to report a change of address or change in your situation such as marriage, death of petitioner, or birth of children.
 Please do not send any documents with this form unless you are specifically requested to do so

Anyway, looks like they make the appointment for you. K visas can schedule themselves:

Quote

Immediate relative, family preference, employment based, and diversity visa (DV) applicants will receive an appointment notice for an interview at the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt from the National Visa Center (NVC) or the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC). NVC/ KCC will send you an appointment notice for your visa interview at the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt, noting the date, time, and other requirements for your visa interview.

K visa applicants and follow to join asylees/refugees (V92/V93) will be contacted by the U.S. Consulate Frankfurt and notified about the next steps in their application process, including information on how to schedule an interview appointment, as soon as their case has been transferred from NVC for further processing.
