Population DENSITY. I don't think you have gotten that yet.

Caladen, don't spend too much time posting. I don't think boo yah is really reading it.

So now it's population density as well to blame.. Clearly they are being forced, at gun point, to live in dense environments. How stupid of me to suggest that they could move elsewhere in one of the largest countries in the world.

What about applying for a visa to AUS to Canada, on humanitarian grounds? Great range of benefits there to help the poor. Free medical, subsidized schooling etc.. A form is free from any Aus embassy and takes 30 minutes to fill out.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Oddly enough, there's a whole literature on how likely you are to be arrested and prosecuted if you're black rather than if you're white. Blacks are more likely to be arrested, too, and less likely to draw a sympathetic jury or a rich lawyer (unlike, say, Al Gore's kid.)

The other thing is urban poor vs. rural poor. More urban poor = more urban-type crime = more drugs = more arrests. For whatever reason, black people in poverty tend to live in cities and white people in poverty tend to live in more rural areas (i.e., meth labs.)

At the end of a day a poor white guy is the same as a poor black guy. You also raise a good point because there are lots of poor black Americans living out in the rural areas, if not poorer, who are fantastic people and would slap their child silly if he committed any crime.

Therefore it is not a matter of poverty or even density alone but also a cultural difference between urban and rural people. The freakin cultural difference I have been talking about all along..

I am still waiting for the proof of this link between poverty, in america, since anything I say is a"wild tangents based on anecdotal, second hand information"..

Does it matter? When you believe what you believe as strongly as you do, facts, research, evidence to the contrary is not likely to change your opinion/belief.

What evidence, facts and research has anybody, with opposing views, provided here?? Zero. It all comes down to opinion. Which being in an immigration forum is clearly biased.

I think you're overlooking the obvious here - you yourself haven't provided "evidence, facts, and research" to support whatever point/s you were trying to make. As it stands - Steven is right. You've split yourself into so many tangents - whatever point you were trying to make originally has been long lost. Again - you have not provided one single, specific claim whatsoever - let alone one that you have provided supporting evidence for.

Meanwhile - Caladan provided you with some research. Which you have ignored.

But ok - I think its time to nail this down to something tangible and specific. Lets pick a couple of these high crime areas and actually look at them. By that I don't mean - point to the crime rate, then the ethnic demographics of the population and jump to wild, unsupported conclusions.

Lets go back to that list you posted:

Based on 2006 data from the United States Census Bureau, 44% of the city's residents live in poverty, the highest rate in the nation. The city had a median household income of $18,007, the lowest of all U.S. communities with populations of more than 65,000 residents, making it America's poorest city.

Is that good enough for you. Or should we take a look at Detroit. Next on the list?

What are the crime rates like in the white minority areas?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Newark eh? Ever been there?

In the year 2006, Newark topped its record of homicides at 106.[30] With three times the number of homicides per capita as New York, Newark remains as one of the most violent cities in the country.[30] The city is on pace to match or break its homicide record again in 2007.

The city's mayor, Cory Booker, is a member of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition[31], a bi-partisan group with a stated goal of "making the public safer by getting illegal guns off the streets." The Coalition is co-chaired by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

In Newark, as in other cities, the rise in homicides and other violent crimes occurs mostly in low-income, minority neighborhoods, where guns are plentiful and the narcotics trade is flourishing. In many cases, both perpetrators and victims have criminal pasts that involve drugs. Police note that guns are used in 90 percent of Newark’s homicides; a fundamental challenge is reducing their abundance.

What about Philadelphia?

According to statistics from 2004, there were 5,513.5 crimes per 100,000 people in Philadelphia.[43] In 2005, going by these statistics, Philadelphia was ranked by Morgan Quitno as the sixth-most dangerous American city with a population of over 500,000 out of a total of 32 such cities. Among its neighboring Mid-Atlantic cities in the same population group, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. were ranked second- and third-most dangerous cities in the United States, respectively, and Camden, New Jersey across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, was ranked as the most dangerous city in the United States. [44]

Recently, statistics released in 2006 named Camden the fifth-most dangerous city in the country, representing a minor improvement from its 2004 ranking, considering the city is still ranked high but is not one the largest cities in the country. Philadelphia now ranked 29th. However, Philadelphia experienced its highest murder rate in over a decade in 2006, with 406 murders in the city.[45]

Number_6 I understand poverty is a factor. I just think there are also other factors such as attitude and probably many more that need to be studied. A number of people said kids join gangs because of poverty.

There are different reasons for different kids:

* Some are drawn by parties, girls, & drugs.

* Some are looking for a sense of respect and power.

* Some find a feeling of caring and attention in a gang. It becomes almost a family to them.

* Some want to make money -- to help out at home or to have nice clothes, etc.

* Some join for self protection because they are picked on by other gangs.

* Some grow up in a neighborhood where it is almost a way of life.

* Most have some real or imagined problem at home that makes them prefer the streets.

As their drug addiction grows, their problems at home become worse because parents don't know how to cope with the addiction.

How did this thread get to 15 pages without anyone reporting the blatant racism of the OP?

I just went through everything I posted as was wondering if any of the comments I made fit in any following definitions of racism..

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another race or races.

The Merriam-Webster's Webster's Dictionary dictionary defines racism as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race, and that it is also the prejudice based on such a belief.[2]

The Macquarie Dictionary defines racism thus: the belief that human races have distinctive characteristics which determine their respective cultures, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule or dominate others.

Can't you understand

What makes a man

Hate another man

Help me understand

People are people

So why should it be

That you and I should get along awfully

People are people

So why should it be

That you and I should get along awfully

So now theres differents colors

And theres differents breeds

And different people

Have different needs

It's obvious you hate me

Though I've done nothing wrong

I've never even met you

So what I could I have done

Can't you understand

What makes a man

Hate another man

Help me understand

People are people

So why should it be

That you and I should get along awfully

People are people

So why should it be

That you and I should get along awfully

So now you're punching

And you're kicking

And you're screaming at me

You're relying on my common decency

I know it hasn't surfaced

But I'm sure it exists

It just takes a while to travel

From my head to my fist (Boom)

Can't you understand

What makes a man

Hate another man

Help me understand

People are people

So why should it be

That you and I should get along awfully

People are people

Help me understand

People are people

So why should it be

Why should it be that we get along so awfully

(Cant you understand) why should it be

Feel free.

Every single person who has posted in this thread has vehemently disagreed with his b/s. You'd think that would tell him something.

Yes. You and SteveLaura, jenn3539, Caladan, thetreble, Mister Fancypant just nailed it. Just tell me where to send the trophies..
