You live in town of 8,500 people where the population is 93% white? Maybe you should come and live down here in the hood. I can show you around Camden, Newark, Elizabeth, Irvington, etc. if you want. Maybe that will show you actual poverty and why crime is so high.

Try learning to speak a foreign language. It would be hard to prove and highly irrational that someone immigrates to this country and has no desire to integrate. This is a nation of foreigners and even among Hispanic families, you'd be hard pressed to find third generation individuals who don't know how to speak English. Many of them in fact don't speak fluent Spanish.

I don't think you'll find anyone here arguing against the need for immigrants to integrate into society, but you cross the line when you believe that assimilation (which is different from integration) is necessary for foreigners to succeed in this country.

Why shouldn't foreigners try to become an American? This country has its up and downs but has a lot to be proud of as well. Some make it out as a taboo to be an American. While it is great for America to embrace and learn from other cultures it should not have to changes its way of life to accommodate everybody else.

If I was to move to China, for example, I would integrate and at the very least try my best to become Chinese.

how would you start?? you could learn the language, I guess and eat the food but you are never going to become Chinese...

what is an American??... isn't America made up of people from all over the world??
