Eligible for N400 on 8/20/24. Can I sign and date the form as 8/20/24, but mail it on 8/18/24 so USCIS will receive it as early as 8/20/24 (it is impossible for USCIS to receive it before 8/20/24)

Don't do it. I'd sign and send on 8/20/2024 earliest. Maybe even 08/21/2024 to be absolutely sure you won't get denied. There's nothing worse than arguing with USCIS over who's right. You're creating a law exam question by doing it. Keep it simple. Good luck!

First don’t play with signature date… future dating documents could bite you. 
 

Don’t mess with things you have NO control over…such as delivery trucks, mailroom mishaps.

If you want to expedite the process, file electronically on 8/21.  It will be received instantly and you won't have to worry about mail delays.

why on earth would you try and create a problem?! It will take months for the form to be approved - what difference will a few days make?!

 

I will be sending mine in 85 days before the deadline. And then sit back with a beer and chill.

Why are you filing on paper anyway? All you need to do is fill out the form online and upload your documents, and then just click "submit". Easiest thing in the world, and you don't have to worry about it getting lost in the mail and you don't have to wait for weeks to hear anything back. You receive your receipt notice the minute you pay for your petition.

I have to apply via paper because I need to waive the fee by enclosing form i912.

Worst case is they somehow calculate the date one day different then you did.  So they sit on it for six months and then reject it for early filing.  Then you have to start all over again with a new application and another long wait, just for trying to save a day or two.  Definitely not worth the risk.
