Applying SSN through I-485

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for all the helpful responses!

My spouse entered via K1 visa and is in the middle of the i485 process. However, I made a grave mistake of not getting an SSN for him before getting married and we are left to apply for his SSN via I485.

My question is, since i485 takes time to get approved, does that mean he wont have a SSN card until the i485 gets approved? Or (hopefully) the SSN process is independent from the i485 and gets issued even before the i485 gets approved?

I would also like to add that he is scheduled for biometrics this month and would like to know, based from your experience, how long will it have to take to get the i485 approved after biometrics.

Thank you all!

*** Thread moved from K1 forum to SSN forum as the question is about getting an SSN ***

Unfortunately, it is not possible get an SSN after you miss the 75 day window after arrival on a K1. You will either have to wait until I-485 is approved and you receive a GC or if you applied for I-765, the EAD card.
