Can I adopt my wife’s child for citizenship?

Processed the I-130 for my wife and child with a company that is based in Colombia however it seems they weren’t very knowledgeable on the subject and only submitted the form for my wife with the expectation that my stepdaughter wold be included automatically, unfortunately that was not the case and now my wife just passed NVC going to her appointment wile my stepdaughter is in her 5 month of process. I was curious if adopting her wold help please let me know

Misread.  Editing:

 

I wish you had come here 5 months ago.  Have you asked USCIS to expedite the child's case?  Has an interview date been assigned by NVC for wife's case? If not, ask NVC to hold wife's case until child case reaches them.  If wife's interview date has been assigned, contact the consulate and ask them to hold wife's case until child's case reaches them.

Date has been assigned already and this process has taken a toll on the relationship btw. When the appointment date was sent my wife changed completely cause now where closer to being together however with this issue it’s rough on us. I proposed to my wife to extend the appointment but once I said that she waterworks started. She understands why I proposed it but this process was so long that she didn’t know how to tell me that she didn’t want to without feeling bad about her daughter at the same time. In the end we decided to go through with it and if nothing else could help us have my stepdaughter live with the grandparents which she is accustomed to since there very close and try to get a lawyer to help expedite it. Was adventuring the idea of a adoption but wasn’t sure if this was an option for me

You can petition her as a step parent so adoption gives you no benefit.

No. You've already petitioned the child as an immediate relative through marriage. You are already a step-parent.

If your wife's concerns are that it will delay her becoming a US permanent resident, then your wife can attend the interview, get the visa, fly to the US, and then fly back to take care of your daughter.  The CR1/IR1 visa in her passport becomes a temporary I-551 (green card) once it is endorsed when she gets processed through US Customs. 

 

If your wife is missing you and wants to be with you as soon as possible, then your plan to have her grandparents watch your stepdaughter would be best.  

 

It is odd that you used a Colombian immigration attorney/agency. They would not be able to represent you with USCIS unless they have the credentials to practice law in the US.

Hmm. Either wife is missing you so much or something else.

 

Either ways adoption for immigration is a little bit complex than you think. Just continue with petition you've filed; it will be faster than adoption for immigration.

thanks I’ll propose this to her and see what she thinks of it

this is mostly the reason, she has been alone with my 4 year old son and my stepdaughter wile being married to me and not having my presence in the house for a year and a half now. I’ve lost count on how many times she has thrown the towel and asked me to forget about it and just go back to Colombia and figure out life there. Honestly, she’s never been crazy about the states. Once she’s here, I know it’s gonna be a huge culture shock. But here I have a secure Job wile over there I do customer service work over the phone (trust me you get to know real fast how how insufferable people can be over a pair of jeans in the states) I was miserable doing work in Colombia.

yeah, to be honest with you I totally regret I did that. As I was shopping around for a lawyer here in the states, I was letting her know how much lawyers here cost, and to her it was crazy to pay that much (obviously now I realize that you get what you pay for) but back then she started doing her own shopping around and found a place on the city near where she lives. She got me to talk with them and Justin the price alone they had convinced me. I figured, if this is a process that was meant to be filed by oneself then it shouldn’t be that bad for a person who does this for a living. I was so wrong.
