Possible to postpone IR1 interview?

Hi all, I've been digging through the archives and the consulate website, and can't find a clear answer on this. Due to unexpected personal circumstances I need to delay my already-scheduled interview by up to a year, as I am no longer able to immigrate imminently as planned.

I know you can delay at the NVC stage - but unclear about the post-DQ consulate stage.

The below thread suggests you get a year's grace by cancelling and just not rescheduling an interview...? I can't find anything firm on this and don't want to be set back to zero in the process. Can anyone advise? And if this is correct - do I tell the embassy this is what I'm doing or just cancel the interview and say nothing...?

(I'm not concerned about then having to re-do the medical, re-submit up to date financial documents etc.)

Many thanks.

Once an interview date has been scheduled by NVC, contact the consulate for all interview matters.  I would just contact them and explain, so that they do not just close your case.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

We cancelled and did nothing for 5 months. Scheduled an interview then without any issues. Don’t leave it for a year though, as they may close your case. You may be able to schedule and cancel until the time is right for you, although I’m sure there are limits.

Thank you @Crazy Cat. Is it possible to move this to the IR1 processes and procedures forum do you think? Or should I re-post there...? I realise it's not London / UK specific and that over there perhaps might have been a better place for me to post. Apologies.

Medical is good for only six months.  You'll need a new medical.  Visas expire six months from the interview date.
