Entering the US on a L1, with spouse on F1, newborn on L2 and parent on B1 - is CBP likely to give us trouble?

Hi all,

I've been approved for an intracompany transfer and plan to enter the US on a L1 visa, with a dependent newborn on L2 and my spouse who is simultaneously enrolling in grad school on an F1.

To make our first few weeks slightly easier, we've asked my mother to accompany us (on a B1 visa), while we settle in and figure out childcare options.

I'm wondering if the CBP will doubt her intent to return to her home country - for context, she's already been to the US a couple of times on a B1 visa previously and has never overstayed.

A second option is for her to enter the US by herself 1-2 weeks after us - it's slightly inconvenient but a doable option if it makes things easier with CBP.

Would appreciate your thoughts - thanks!

B1 is for business, you mean B2 which is for tourism.

You don't state what country she is from, but If she has previously visited without issue then it is less likely she will encounter any difficulty with her next attempted entry. Also depends on the length of her previous visits and how long she has been out of the US. Hopefully she still has ties to her home country.

Saying that, coming to look after a baby can be considered 'work' which may raise an issue.

Valid visa should be able to enter with few questions and customs checking luggage /  a lot depends on the country of origin

Mother can not work-not even to help u /this will get questioned
