K-1 interview time at GZ Consulate after NOA2

Hi all, we received our NOA2 today (NOA1 April 30) and listed the Guangzhou consulate as our interview site. This came much sooner than either of us expected and wondering if anyone knows the wait time for the GZ consulate? Should we plan on doing an interview sometime before 21 Nov (the validity date on the NOA2) or is the wait time there longer and likely to be pushed back?

Hi all, we received our NOA2 today (NOA1 April 30) and listed the Guangzhou consulate as our interview site. This came much sooner than either of us expected and wondering what exactly the dates on the NOA2 mean in relation to scheduling an interview at the consulate?

We had planned on doing the interview sometime after the New Year originally with me making a trip to China for that. I already have a 3-week trip to China planned for late Sep - early Oct, but not sure if we'd be able to get the interview that soon. The NOA2 is valid until 21 Nov, so does this mean the interview has to take place before then? Or, is it an option that we can request to have it pushed back to the New Year period?

21st Nov is when your NOA2 expires. You can only have it extended if there are no available dates for interview before then (or maybe you have some emergency you can evidence).

You're in a very priveledged position of being able to be with your partner much sooner, why waste that because you have a trip planned?

I would use the portal feature on here to see how things work at your consulate :) just to get prepared for what your options are. Some consulates/embassies are super easy to schedule with, right out of the gate, and others make you wait for packet 3 (and sometimes packet 4).

In terms on how early you can get an interview,  it really depends. If you just got your NOA2 you still have some waiting to do. Now that your case has been approved with USCIS it has to go to the NVC for processing. In my case, USCIS held my case for 2 weeks past the NOA2 date before sending to the NVC. Once at the NVC it took about 2 weeks for case creation, and a third before it was sent to the embassy. We are fortunate that our embassy is self-scheduled so once we got the email stating it was in transit, we checked the status and saw that it was ready to schedule a few days later. When we self-scheduled there were a few straggler appointments for the upcoming week and then one for the following month. I'm sure cancellations happen all the time and you might be able to get an interview spot for the timeframe you are looking for. It all depends on how your consulate does things and how fast the NVC processes things.

I have heard that the embassies are able to extend the validity (and do so automatically in some cases). As you need to schedule a trip to Chine for your consulate, and that takes extra planning and resources, if they required a reason that would be sufficient in my opinion. More experienced members should be able to shed some light on this.

Congrats on your NOA2!!

Our K1 visa interview experience at Guangzhou on 28 May 2024. I’m not sure it’ll help you. NVC sent our approval petition to Guangzhou consulate in 2 weeks , CEAC status changed to READY. I sent an inquiry to the consulate what to do next. And replied us Wait for an instruction for next steps. My fiancé received Packet 3 by express mail at her home address in one week. We followed all the instructions on Packet 3. She mailed all the documents requested to the consulate via China Post. In one week the consulate received her documents and sent Packet 4 by email. Now it’s ready to create an account and register. She was allowed to make a payment for the processing fee, after successfully complete payment, she was able to make an interview appointment. There was a calendar showing availability of the interview dates. She picked one. It’s very easy process. I have no idea if the availability calendar shows up to next year. You can make some inquiries to Guangzhou consulate when you have questions. I think the consulate will give correct answer. Good luck
