In theory yes, in practice USCIS denies cases for no show every now and then, even when reschedule request was submitted and acknowledged. I'd follow the golden path (no reschedules, all evidence submitted) to lower the chance of erroneous denial. Also, why make USCIS work on case if not ready to naturalize? This slows down other people who eagerly wait for their case to be decided, ready to go to interview / oath any moment they're invited? It's like joining long airport security line only to ask somebody to hold your spot when it's your turn to go... Can do if really want, but it's somewhat a waste of everybody's time.

Well, anyone is free to do as they want. My wife has been eligible to apply since July 1st but we're in the Philippines for another month. I would apply now but someone posted they were denied for applying outside the country. But in each of the last 3 months of the year there's a week we won't be available and that may continue indefinitely. If we have to reschedule, so be it. If we're denied and have to reapply, same.

I believe there are 2 parts to the process, A whatever USCIS does before the interview and B the interview. I don't really see delaying A as helping anyone else much. Delaying B should move someone else up.

My wife applied for her citizenship last month but was accepted this month. We used Rapid Visa to file the N400. So it was accepted in the Phoenix lockbox or the Tucson office . Hoping for a smooth and fast wait . lol but we know how that is!

I seriously suspect uscis can deny cases coz you asked to reschedule the interview . When they are saying we can request to reschedule. Its possible reschedule can drag the process or another date might be far too long denyung is not part of it simply baser on request ti rrscuedule . Its not illegal or prohibited its is advised by uscis if we are for any reaeon unable to.

Out of extreme fear we sometimes panic and create myths

You suspect or doubt?

Doubt no more. You can find examples by Googling.

Here's one example of somebody's I-485 denied after asking to reschedule. The story has the happy end and many similar do, but not all.

Here's another one:

There's more examples online if you search. I've been active on VJ for about 3-4 years and I see it from time to time. I also listened to all 645 episodes of immigration show (calls to immigration lawyer) and USCIS denying case for not showing when asked to reschedule happened at least 5-10 times on the show.

Well, I wonder how often people reschedule and there's no problems?  And what other errors are being made? In your first example, it seems the individual wasn't proactively checking their USCIS account and may not have even known to do so. They were told to wait a month and apparently did so. I wouldn't wait that long.

As my profile says, I always advocate for taking the safest approach. Personally, I would only reachedule USCIS interview in one of the following cases:

- Wife giving birth

- Attending funeral of a close relative

- Serious illness

- $100000 cash is given on a spot if I attend some event and skip USCIS interview

I ask myself, what's the probability of USCIS denying petition due to no show if I attend on time with letter? It's probably under 1%, but even that happens in rare cases. What's the probability of USCIS messing up reschedule request? Definitely lower than 10%, but I'd say could be few percent. Would I want to deal with USCIS error? No. So I'd shift any meeting / trip / event to show up to the interview. But that's me.

Yes you do. It is not mandatory in the sense that if you did not take any trips you don’t have to complete it. But the aggregate length of your trips is used to determine eligibility for citizenship so this section should not considered to be optional.

Yes all trips outside the US in the last 3 or 5 years (depending which rule you use for N-400). It's optional because not everybody travels outside the US.
