i-129f expiring before interview (Merged threads)

Hello, I have been searching online all day for an answer to this, but everywhere there's different answers and I'm not sure what else to do about this. I'm in Colombia if that helps. Our i-129f approval expires in late august, but the closest appointment available for the interview that I was able to schedule is for september. I tried emailing the embassy itself with no answer, tried calling and was told by the person on the phone that he couldn't offer an extension and the only thing he could do was schedule the appointment for this month instead, which is also not an option since the closest medic check up I could get is for mid august, so the only other two options he gave me were emailing the center in charge of interview appointments here (I already did after calling so I need to wait on an answer there) or schedule an emergency appointment and hope that will fall within the i-129f validity period. Online all I can find about this is to call the embassy, which is what I tried today, or that the embassy itself will automatically extend the validity period or email you about extending it, though no confirmation on when it will happen or if it can happen in my country. We don't really have anything else we can check as everything says this is in the hands of the embassy, so could anyone offer any help with this? Either confirming that the embassy will handle it and it will be fine to just wait to hear of an extension, or any other form or contact we could try? Is there anywhere we can check online that an extension has been granted and what happens if we don't get this extension confirmed to be done by the time I have to go to my interview?

Which embassy is your interview with?

Most embassies automatically extend a petition 4 months at a time for up to 1 year. They usually don't tell you it's being extended.

You should be fine if they recognize that you have scheduled an interview and will extend.

For example our petition expired on July 4th, but the interview wasn't until July 9th. They didn't even mention it at the interview.

Granted that's a much shorter time than yours.

My only other suggestion would be to wait and try contacting them closer to when your petition is set to expire, like 2 weeks maybe.

It's hard to say where to contact them without knowing what embassy you are going through. Someone who also went through that embassy might have better information.

Bogota's embassy, it's the only one we have here available. Unfortunately we received the email with full instructions and asking us to schedule the appointment at the end of june, so half of the validity period was already gone by then.

With how unpredictable the timeline of the K-1 visa process is, embassies will extend petitions that are still being pursued.

Since you have an interview scheduled, they will see it as still being pursued.

I believe that you have nothing to worry about.

I would suggest looking through posts in the Colombia thread on this site to see if anyone has been in a similar situation, cause there's a good chance people have.

Hello, asking here as well to hopefully get answers from anyone who has gone/is going through the process here in Colombia. To make it brief, our i-129f approval expires at the end of august, but the only appointment for the interview we were able to get is at the end of september. I tried calling the embassy yesterday and emailing, both only telling me they couldn't do anything to help, and I can't find any other contact to be able to either move the appointment or confirm we can extend the approval's validity time. Can anyone confirm if the embassy will really automatically extend it on their own when it's getting close to the expiration date? Or if there's anything I have to do to make sure this won't be a problem by the time I show up at the interview? Being unable to get any straight answer even from the embassy itself is honestly being so stressful I don't really know what to do about this since I can't find anything about this situation when it comes to my country and the embassy not saying anything when most online topics on this say to call them or that they *should* extend it on their own without confirmation.

You should be fine.  The Consulate should accept the I129F, even expired, due to available interview slots.

Good Luck!
