So my fiancee went to do her medical exam in Ankara for the K1 and everything was ok until they asked for her medical records. She didn't bring her medical records as she is Iranian and thought that they wouldn't accept them. She contacted her doctor but since he is on vacation he won't be available to write up something for her. The nurse who administered the test said she could bring it by this evening or next morning but it won't be on time.

What can we do?

Thanks,

Michael P.

Without her medical records at the very worst, the overseas doctor will assume no vaccination, and give her the required minimum vaccination doses. With that, there is always the possibility that the USCIS will want an I-693 medical exam during the AOS. My K1 beneficiary experienced something similar.

Or you can reschedule the medical exam follow-up for a later date with enough time to get the medical records? Some K1 medicals may take several months since the doctors may want follow-up tests.

They asked her if she took medication (she does) and then they asked for her medical history. I believe her answer triggered them asking and requiring the medical records from Iran. It's so confusing, I thought in Ankara they don't accept any type of record, immunization or otherwise, from Iran.

Am I getting that right?

Was completely surprised by this requirement. Her interview is on Friday so I emailed the embassy about it.  Unsure of what to do next, besides rescheduling the interview.

Without being part of the medical exam, it is impossible to speculate what triggered it.

Just choose the best of the 2 options unless you can think of a 3rd option?

Items To Bring To Your Medical Examination:

The doctor will need the following items to complete the medical exam forms:

  • Your visa interview appointment letter,
  • Your passport,
  • Your DS-260 confirmation page,
  • If any, a copy of your immunization records (medical records from Iran will not be accepted, documents prepared in the last 30 days, or unreliable records will not be accepted),
  • If you suffer from a chronic illness, have been treated for any disease, ever had any important operation, or are under psychiatric care, doctors recommend you to present your medical file during examination,
  • If you are using medicine, bring their names or the boxes of your medicine,
  • If you are using glasses, bring your glasses with you,
  • Women who are pregnant (or planning to become pregnant) are required to have a Chest X-Ray to immigrate. Please be aware that if you do not prefer to have a Chest X-Ray your medical report will not be completed until the end of your pregnancy. Please consult your obstetrician, own physicians regarding your health concerns on this subject and go to the panel physician’s office with your final decision with a written document by your doctor."

It says on part 4, that they aren't accepted.
