Surprised at no Hurricane Beryl thread all this time.

 

This piece is right on the money (except that Cat 1 is a small storm, not major).  I'm in this worthless outfit's service area and was out of power for 62 hours -- and I'm one of the lucky ones.

 

A neighbor not given to exaggeration says that the top 20 executives of CenterPointle$$ need to be fired, amidst other overhauls.

Why is the Power Still Out in Houston?

 

Yes, a major hurricane blew through Texas.  We all understand that.  But it's been a week and the power is still out in significant portions of the Houston area.  What is taking so long?  Governor Greg Abbott has returned from his diplomatic visit to Asia and his patience is clearly wearing thin.

 

This has brought renewed attention to CenterPoint Energy, the company responsible for managing and maintaining the power grid in the region.  Abbott is not only demanding that they get the power back online, but they quickly prepare and submit plans that will allow them to do better in the future.  If they fail to comply, he is threatening to impose his own requirements on the company via executive action.  You can't really blame him.  This situation is long past the point of being ridiculous and is turning significantly dangerous.  [...]

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yankees head north on Interstate 45 to Dallas.
Mejicans head west on Interstate 10 to San Antonio.
Cajuns head east on Interstate 10 to Lafayette.
Texas Aggies get on the 610 Loop and keep going.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

We had a similar problem in SW FL after hurricane Irma.  I was without power for 2 weeks which was (somewhat) understandable as we were in the eye, and I'm in a bit of a rural area where all homes have at least 2 1/2 acres or more.  Of course we were lower on the list for reconnection, but FPL did a decent job with the help of a lot of out of town and out of state linemen.  In the next county, Lee county, LCEC (Lee County Electric Co-op) refused to allow for any outside assistance until the Governor put a stop to their nonsense.

One of my patients goes to TCU (God knows why).  

Is that school as bad?
