Hello! I am a British Citizen living in the US on an E2 visa sponsored by my company (I work for a British staffing company here in the US). I have just married my US Citizen partner and we are now submitting a green card application.

We are planning to do a celebration with family in the UK in September 2025 as they were unable to be here for the legal ceremony earlier this year. I am concurrently filing I-130, I-485 etc.

With form I-131, I believe when filling it in I am requesting advance parole. Page 2, Part 3, Q1 asks for date of intended departure - I was going to put a date one week before the celebration. If I do this, does this mean I won't be able to do any travel prior to this? There is a wedding in May 2025 I was also hoping to attend in the UK but I've heard if I put that the travel authorization is for multiple trips as opposed to singular this can affect things.

As well as this, I have been told by some not to even bother applying for I-131 as it is taking so long right now, I might as well just wait for the Green Card. Not sure what the best route is as I obviously don't want to miss my celebration in September 2025.

I'd apply for I-131.

You never know what the future holds.

If you have I-131 pending, and you happen to have an emergecy requiring travel - you at least get a chance of expediting it. If there's no I-131 - there's nothing to expedite.

In terms of travel dates, it doesn't matter much. I put "To be determined" and got combo AP / EAD card when I went through AOS.
