Take me, for example. I am more likely to vote Democrat because I generally lean that way but would not if it was Hillary on their ticket. I'd rather support a moderate Republican for President then support Hillary. And you better believe that I am not alone.

But would a conservative Republican support a moderate Republican? Bob Dole was more conservative than Guiliani and McCain, but still unacceptable to a large enough segment of very conservative Republican voters to splinter off to a third party candidate (Buchanan). There is just no way a third party candidate wouldn't emerge if Guiliani is on the ticket - even Ann Coulter has said as much.

I am probably temperamentally closer to moderate Republicans or non-insane libertarians, but better a Democrat than handing the government back into the control of Cheney's crowd for another four years.

Sorry Dev, it is true. I know you like her but the hatred from the right (and a good number of those on the left) is very real. I want to bury the hatchet with you, it's nothing personal.
God Gary, why can't you get into your head, your opinions ARE NOT FACT!!!!!!!!! You do NOT speak for America so stop saying you do.

All he is saying is that America won't elect Hillary into the White House.

While that's not a fact (yet), I am of the opinion that you'll see in due time that he's right.

She has a stronger amount of support than anyone running now, you cannot dispute that. I take issue with Gary (or anyone) stating absolutely that she will not get in.

I never said anyone in particular would get in, because NO ONE CAN SAY WHO WILL GET ELECTED!!! That's what's called an ELECTION & we have it for a reason.

Speaking in absolutes only weakens a debater's points.

Once she is the nominee for the dems, there will be lots of little tidbits to snack on from her past. Beleive me, she will get hammered by them. Of course there are a few that will vote for her just because she is a woman. Uh Devil?

Looks like they all have one bad (a.k.a. liberal/21st century) issue! What will you DO now?

I don't remember Gary saying anything about the abortion rights issue being a dealbreaker for him.

Are you joking?

Abortion is like the #2 issue for conservative Reps!

Sorry, I was at work last night and got busy.

Putting words in my mouth Dev? I haven't and will not state my position on abortion.

To answer Steven, I think I already did that. Thompson is who I am leaning to. Before I get a screen full of capital letters from you Dev about how he isn't running get this through your head. He will announce in Sept. At that time IMO he will become the front runner. Please note Dev, I just stated my opinion.

I said that I am leaning towards Thompson, I haven't made up my mind yet. Unlike some I don't choose who I want out of just who they are. I am totally issue driven. If Romney has stances closer to what I want then I will go for him. Guiliani isn't my first choice from what I hear from him. McCain would never get my vote regardless of what he says from now on.

That being said, if Clinton is the dem candidate I would support anyone over her. That woman is, in Dawgs words, a nightmare.

Dev, are you supporting Clinton because you want a woman president? How about Condie Rice? Would you support her? You would get the first woman and black at the same time. Yes I know she isn't running, I am only asking in a hypothetical way.

I was speaking generally - I jsut find it strange that Thompson hasn't announced he's running yet and there is more enthusiasm for him than Romney in conservative circles. I completely disagree with Romney on his stance on social issues but I think he's a fantastic candidate (and also very charismatic) with a great track record of management. I guess the religious right won't accept a mormon.

Back at ya.

I don't really have a dream candidate. And there probably won't be one. It's going to be another choice between the lesser of two evils. I'd just like some fresh air. That's one of the reasons why I like Obama. There are also reasons also why I don't like him but in the balance, he's the best candidate on the Democrat side. He's intelligent, articulate and fresh. And he polls better against the Republican contenders than Hillary does. Which measn the Democrats actually have a chance to put a President into the White House. But they will most likely squander that chance by nominating Shrillary.

His religion has no bearing on my opinion of him. I would consider him if he can convince me his views he states today will be what he does later. He seems to change his mind a little to often for me.

On that I totally agree. I am ashamed to say I will vote for whoever the reps put up if Hillary is the dem candidate. It's a real shame that it will come to that. Even I would prefer Oboma over Hillary.
