George W. Bush is the biggest spending president of

the past 40 years in both the defense and domestic

discretionary spending categories by a long shot. Indeed,

he beats Johnson by almost four percentage points in

defense spending growth and more than three percentage

points in domestic discretionary spending growth.

What’s also remarkable is that Nixon, not Johnson or

Bush, presided over the largest increase in inflation adjusted

annualized entitlement spending. Yet, George W.

Bush, along with his father, follows Johnson in terms of

spending in this category.

...roll that in a joint smoke it, Marky Marc and the Funky Bunch.

What you are forgetting is that Bush can't spend a dime of the nations money. Only congress can do that. All Bush can do is sign or veto a spending bill put in front of him. Smoke that one Steven.

Gary, will you ever concede on any negative truths about Bush's Presidency? God I hope he's paying you.

Yes, he is a big spender. How does that contradict the fact that his tax cuts are a good thing?

This was published by the Cato Institute, Gary. The Cato Institute. Maybe you should write to them and tell them that as a bonafide Conserative you are outraged by their biased report that points the finger at Bush rather than admit it was all Congress (which happened to have been Republican controlled for most of his tenure) who went on the spending spree.

Because he's doing the 'ol tax and spend liberal dance routine. It's those bleedin Democrats who want to tax us to high heaven and spend, spend, spend. Well he spent...and somebody's got to pay for it.

The Dems should have the nuts the Republicans had back when they shut Clinton's goverment down over budget issues.
You've got that the wrong way around. Clinton shut down the government, not the Republicans.

You're right. I had that the wrong way.

Does this mean you'll vote Dem now?

PWNED!!

Bush will go down in history as one the worst Presidents...he is a complete and utter failure on both domestic and foreign policy.

Hopefully those who are still Republican will realize that if they haven't already. I have hope that Gary will someday wake up and smell the coffee.

 Won't happen.

I'd be fine with tax cuts if they were accompanied by spending cuts towards defense contractors and pork.

I might. I have in the past mostly voted for Dems. But I will not if they put Shrillary out there.

And Cato is a conservative (in the mold of the Rockefeller Republicans) think tank. They produce reliable work. It's not their fault the party's been taken over.

Which makes it comical that any Republican today can arrogantly point the finger at the Democrats as 'tax and spend' liberals.

Tell me that again when Hillary triples your taxes to pay for her Hillarycare and at the same time leaves the troops in Iraq. Although I agree that the the reps in congress have lost their way. That is why I want a clean sweep. Throw out everyone in congress dem and rep alike and put in a fresh crop of real conservitives with Thompson or Newt as president. Then the country will be heading in the right direction.
