Proof of relationship/in-person meeting

Hi everyone!

me and my fiancé have been together for long but we were in long distance relationship and due to covid delays we met in Canada and he visited from the US. He didn't see my family in person but they know each other very well. 
 

is it ok if I put in the proof of relationship/in person meeting the screenshots of our engagement announcement to our family via videocall? Thanks!

i plan to put the screenshots after the page where i put our official engagement photos.

You need to have met once in the last two years. As long as that's the case, you should be good. Any extra can only help, but I'd make sure it's clear and valid evidence if I were you. Text messages, gift receipts, ring receipts, stuff like that also helps!

Hi! Yes we did meet and we have photos of us together but not with family since they are in the Philippines. But is it ok to put an announcement screenshot after the engagement slide or i should be fine? I already have receipt of booking airbnb and hotel, as well as engagement ring receipt

For the I-129F stage (so the petition), you only have to show proof of (physically) having met in the last two years.

For proof of ongoing relationship (which is important during the embassy stage, but for which you can send in proof with your I-129f if you'd like), an engagement announcement could be helpful, as does the receipt of your engagement ring and airbnb/hotel bookings.

 

Remember that all evidence is not created equal. Some types of evidence are seen as stronger evidence than others(a lease with both names on it is stronger than a hotel booking). Also, a combination of evidence is helpful (e.g. a variety of pictures, receipts, bookings, boarding passes, etc). However, don't go overboard on the amount of evidence.

All the evidence you need for showing you met in person are accommodation receipts, flight itineries, boarding passes, passport stamps and I-94 if applicable. Pictures together are supplementary (but still valuable) as dates taken are not easily proved. 

 

If you both met in a third country, then I imagine they needed to be shown for both fiance and USC, considering you need to show you were both in the same place at the same time. 

 

Evidence of engagement and family bonds doesn't show that you've met within the last 2 years.

I submitted both, proof of meeting in person as well as continuing relationship. In my case, there was a lot of crossover, so it seemed prudent to submit everything I could. 

 

I would absolutely submit your photos, with brief explanations about what they are. I would submit this in addition to evidence of your travels and in person meetings. I-94 records (if applicable) are solid evidence. I also submitted flight receipts, boarding passes, luggage tags, and hotel receipts. 

 

The burden of showing an ongoing, bonafide relationship is the heaviest when applying for AOS. I used the filing of our K1 to get all of our proof in line as we will resubmit it all when applying for his green card. The word document with photos I created will be added to, and we will have more receipts from trips/visits/daily life to add to the whole AOS packet. Even if they don't need some of the extra proof I sent along for the K1, having it already mostly compiled for the eventual AOS is worth it and will save time when we are dealing with planning a wedding on short notice, getting married, and applying for AOS. 

 

It is also worth mentioning that if your relationship has any "immigration fraud" red flags (examples: age gap, short relationship, recent divorce(s), previously filed for other K1 finances, etc) or is going through a more heavily scrutinized embassy, additional evidence can only help.

I94 is a government issued travel record and very easy to look up.  

You got this!  You seemed to start with concerns about meeting family.  Ultimately the K1 is provided for bona fide relationships between two people who want to get married.  Although it's nice, meeting family is not a requirement.
