Adjustment of Status/Work Authorization

It is after hours we are seeing this and plan to follow up with USCIS on Monday but is every state different with filling procedures?? My husband and I sent in $1440 as he saw online that when you file for adjustment of status you do not need to pay for the I-765 work authorization. He is also in a Whatsapp group with others who are in the process and one guy sent money for both but had one check sent back (work authorization check $260) and he was confused and when he called they confirmed (he recorded them) saying it was not needed as the $1440 covers both. So why now my husband has a rejection notice for work authorization saying payment incorrect..

USCIS increased fees starting April 1, 2024. This was announced back in January. Starting April 1, I-765 and I-131 are no longer free when filed with I-485. The rejection is correct in this case.

Here’s a discussion about it on VJ:

Thank you for responding, my husband said the guy in the group filed one day prior to us which was May 22nd and we filed May 23 and his check was returned. I listened to the recording as he had USCIS on speaker..very odd perhaps they got lucky in their state

Immigration is federal, no state involvement whatsoever.

I recommend seeking out info such as form fees from official sources (USCIS.gov) vs “online,” social media etc.   Had you done so, you would have known about the April 1 fee increases.

Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Czech Republic
Timeline

We had the same thing happen, just got the rejections back this week for the Advanced Parole (i-131) and EAD (i-765).

Since it's a much quicker AOS for K-1 visas, we'll be skipping the ($630) i-131 entirely. Refiling the i-765 Monday with the new G-1450 for $260.

Rejection letter says they didn't record these, so at least it's not the process of filing defensively, but it's very frustrating when we need the EAD approval to get a valid state ID and they were already 3 weeks past their stated processing time.
