N-400 July 2024 Filers

Hi everybody. Hope you're doing okay this week. Sending good energy to everybody who needs it right now. 

 

I just wanted to briefly jump on to say that I had my interview yesterday with same-day oath in San Diego. Interview was easy, I was in and out in 10 min (breakdown below). 

 

9:00 - Arrived at USCIS office (NOTE: there was a LONG security line, apparently Wednesdays are especially busy in SD; so prepare accordingly)

9:20 - Scheduled interview time

9:55 - called in, done at 10:05, and went straight to the oath ceremony room. Unfortunately, there were some technical difficulties and we had to wait a while. Had my certificate in hand at around 12pm

 

Interview was very straight forward; started by being sworn in, then civics test, language test, and then going over my N400 application. 

 

Good luck to everybody still waiting and prepping for the interview! You got this!

Congratulations!!  Did you notice if they were letting in other family members for the oath ceremony?

Thanks! Yes, my partner could be with me in the waiting area and for the oath ceremony. Just not the actual interview.

The officer did the civics and English test first which I passed. She then reviewed my application to make sure all the information was accurate. I realized I had forgotten to mention one of my jobs, but she simply made a note of it. She also added a couple of dates since I had traveled abroad twice since submitting my application.

Some questions she asked were if my husband and I want to have kids, if we plan to buy a house, if we owe any taxes and at the end, she asked why I want to become a US citizen. 

If you interview in Denver: they have same-day naturalization available daily till the election!!!

I was so happy when she told me I could naturalize the same day, the ceremony was at 10 AM so I only had to wait one hour for it. They are doing same-day ceremonies till the election so people can go ahead and vote. The ceremony was small but beautiful. 

As soon as we left, I went ahead and registered to vote, and I also went to USPS and applied for my passport and passport card. 

 

Overall the interview vibe was relaxed, the officer joked a few times and we had a lot of casual conversation. This is by far the easiest interview I had in my entire immigration journey.

Per chat with live agent my interview was requested on 08/01/2024 and they still havent schedule it.

I don’t mind at all. I told her i wanted to use the US citizen lane when coming back in the country, so my husband and I can use the citizens lane which moves faster. I also told her I thought it would be easier for me in my career to be a US citizen. And lastly I told her I want to be able to vote so my opinion can matter and make a difference.

Yes. That’s me. I and my wife applied on the 8/8/2024 with a couple of hours difference. She got her interview notice within 5 days and my application has no updates after that.

Well, tomorrow is a big day for Visa Journey.

 

My wife interviews in San Diego.  We feel highly confident she will pass but are not 100% confident her change to married name would allow a same day oath.  To us, it seems it is a mater settled by the marriage certificate and doesn't require a judge, so a same day administrative oath is possible.  But we shall see.

 

But amongst other VJ members there are six others who also have N400 interviews listed on their timelines for tomorrow, November 19, too. So good luck and best wishes to all.

Well Success!!!!  kind of.  My wife is now a US Citizen!!!!!  However when it came to the name change they easily talked her out of it.  She has been trying to change her name since she got here.  Social Security previously denied a name change telling her USCIS must sign off on it first due to a Costa Rica Marriage Certificate.  I had extensively coached her to argue her name is already changed due to the marriage but even if they wouldn't accept that just go with a judicial name change but....  The interviewing office suggested it's 'simpler' not to change her name and all that went out the window and she agreed not to change her name during naturalization.  So now she is a US Citizen, with her maiden name and a 4 year old Costa Rica Marriage Certificate that has already been rejected as a name change document by Social Security.  Tomorrow morning we have an expedited appointment at the Passport Agency.  We'll try the name change there but I'm not optimistic.  California DMV is quite specific that they require Social Security to change a name before they will.  Court name changes in California cost like $600 and take months.  It seems like she is stuck with her maiden name at this point.  But otherwise the naturalization went extremely easily.
