They are giving priority to I-485 cases (people in the US illegally)

I-485 filers are not "illegal". Yes, there is some percentage of overstayers, but many more adjusting their status from work visas, student visas, K-1 and other valid statuses. I wouldn't label this large group of people as illegals.

It's election year and they only have 4 more months to crank out new voters so they have been prioritizing N-400s. The goal processing times for them is 6 months just like it is for I-130s but it's only taking them 8 months to complete those. 😒 Hopefully for all our sakes, they speed up after the election.

Just Googled it. About 750k overstayed visas in just 2022. Can't find any statistics about how many of those applied for 485 though.
