I'm pretty sure the intent of those who voiced their concern was not to close the thread.

My concern was to try to curb the amount of piling on and unnecessary bashing that goes on in the so-called upper forums. I had never even read the noob thread as I prefer to abstain from OT as much as possible.

I appreciate that. And I personally was (and am) open to constructive suggestions, and willing to alter behavior if it's helpfully shown to me how I may do so. I rather thought that's exactly what was going on in THIS thread over the last dozen posts or so. However, before we even reached any kind of consensus here, n00bs was summarily shut down.

The end result though is that a little social circle a bunch of us had to swap stories and jokes and funny pictures (since that's the majority of what n00bz consisted of) is now gone.

I feel sorry for John and Jean, the OP whose thread morphed beyond all imagination

Long-lived threads have a way of collecting their adherents and subject matter.

SA thread hasn't really appealed to me personally. Even though other n00berz like Len and Laura use it.

There are other 'culture' threads in OT that I like, especially the b00bs thread (ty Brother Bobby!!) and the chopfvck thread (ty spooky!!)

Maybe n00bz will just take over THIS thread and do our stuff here. Only this isn't OT........

To be fair to Ewok, I don't even think he's had time to review this thread.... he went immediately to the other.

Scandal, anyway who knows who the people were who sent PM's, just because some ppl talked about it here. I never reported it myself, or read much of it. I was adding my 2 cents and I have a feeling others were too. And well with thousands upon thousands of VJ members, how can you tell who complained and who didn't. Maybe some noobs who felt ridiculed sent PM's. I shouldn't speculate I guess since I have no idea.

Then we'd really be in big POO. As far as the pwning a lot was people who asked the same question ( once good info was received ) and were not happy with that answer. Then get upset when you state that they had already been answered numerous times before.........

I was part of n00b thread, but I never piled on to any other thread other than that "we are the best wives". That was my personal choice because I was getting tired of reading it.

About constructive criticism, I would suggest to keep pics out of upper forums. Question might be as dumb as it can get, OP might be disclosing too much about their life or whatever but there is no need to put a "n00b", "troll" or any other picture. Let pictures and jokes and all the anecdotes be part of General discussion forums.

Amen, Robin. It is really sad how VJ has degenerated over the last few months. I know simple, repetetive questions can be annoying, but the best way to not be upset by them is to leave them alone. The thread will run its course much sooner. Piling on only makes the OP feel bad, while the pilers on just look like jerks.

VJ used to be a place that welcomed new members and gave them a place to get help, as well as offering a safe haven to vent amongst those who have gone through/are still going through the visa process and find some understanding. Its sad that some members can't remember how it felt to be still mired in the process.

It's not a new de-generation over the last few months. I'd say it's been going on for at least a couple of years.
