Thank God she has your blessing.

Even if the noobs ask questions that you perceive to be stupid does not give you the right to bash them. It speaks volumes about the type of person you are if you think its OK. ;)

Julez,

A stupid question is one thing.

But a leading question, intended to illicit support for illegal activity, such as immigration fraud? That is a TOS violation. And such threads happen on VJ with some regularity.

What would you have us do? Condone illegal actions? Ignore the thread and not post, possibly allowing someone to proceed down a dangerous and unwise path? Or point out in no uncertain language that their path is harmful? Note that threads are archved, and may be read by others long after. Can you imagine the consequences of not responding strongly, should an innocent newcomer one day come across that thread and get the wrong idea about how to proceed?

So are you saying you are doing VJ some kind of supreme favor?

I would suggest that the thread be reported, after noting that the course suggested by the the OP is illegal and then the thread should be closed by a mod so that further piling on can be avoided. The piling on serves no purpose.

ETA: There seems to be no distinction between a "stupid" question and an "illegal propsition" question when it comes to the piling on here. The mob is happy to pile on in either case.

Ya got me! (pwned!) :dead:

No, I'm not personally doing any "supreme favor" at all! I tend not to post too much in immigration threads anyway, as I said.

I do however think that the collective wisdom of VJ , the "Crowd" if you will, needs to react accordingly. Any one of us could leave VJ tomorrow but the resources and collective knowledge of the site presumably continue. VJ as a community is doing all of it's members a "supreme favor" by offering correct and appropriate advice. Help for those who ask for it and need it. Scolding for those who are misbehaving (and there are such).

I am not a newbie now about K1, since I'm nearly at the end of it (interview on Monday! Wish us luck!!)

But I am about to become a newbie on AOS/AP/EAD, and no doubt will be reading guides and maybe even asking questions. I "get" it.

Reasonable.

However we've had threads where an OP gets very defensive and lashes out attacking at those telling him/her they are acting illegally. This is often what leads to the "pile on" effect. Recent case I remember was the guy from France who was living illegally in Florida with his elderly mother (also imported illegally from France). He was told that his actions and suggested plans were illegal, then HE lashed out with a "how dare you" attitude.

Also, often it's not clear from post #1 that something objectionable or illegal is going on, meaning that a certain amount of discussion is already underway long before a "Report" would even be appropriate.

Another category I've seen happens in Regional forums. For example the recent "Filipinas make the best wives" saga. Not immigration fraud. But guaranteed to (rightly) inflame passions on VJ.

Not so reasonable.

By referring to people (myself apparently included) as a "mob", that is inflammatory. Shall I call you, and those who share your perspective a "mob"? I don't think you would like that.

I'm trying to present my point of view in reasonable terms. You don't have to agree, but please do stay away from incendiary language.

I would have you hit the report button - it's what it's there for

Advocating fraud is something I see happen all the time on this site, often by someone mistakenly giving bad advice. It needs to be stamped out, I don't think that a pile-on is the best way to accomplish that.

Quite reasonable.

But come on everyone, have you read some of this stuff?

Some of it's pretty crazy. And I love when they give you wayyy too much info.

That's what I usually make fun of.

Or when somebody is obviously discriminating against another culture and then someone fights back against that person, but then does the same thing as they did and makes a prejudice generalization. That's always nice to see.

Or our political analysts in the OT threads. Why do we even WATCH the news? There's no point.

Or then there's the opposite, my favorite thread in existence (other than n0obz and say anything) with KenyLeidys, the most famous VJ protagonist in history.

You gotta admit, you got it all on VJ. Real help & information, a lil bit of Jerry Springer here and there, political reports and a soap opera (telenovela). Why do we even watch tv?

The only difference in the "nOObs" thread and another site(that is not to be named or linked or you may get suspended  )is its ON VJ. The same members of VJ are doing the same things bascially. So, its more "visible".

This "picking/piling/bashing" or whatever you wanna call it has been going on for a long time and will continue to happen with or without the "nOObs" thread.

I have checked out the thread and had a few laughs but i agree that "piling on" does not serve any good purpose.

This has been a public service announcement :P

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Some people say Off Topic is something to not take seriously, which I pretty much agree with. But while things have not changed dramatically in some ways, when I first started posting in OT it was for nonsense and to talk about things besides immigration, not to purposely act like a brat in. Some people are brats, but just naturally. Now for awhile it seems like some people intend on letting out brattiness in OT and acting dignified elsewhere in immigration topics? hahaha. There is a difference between not being able to control how other people post with how you decide to post. I take some things seriously, and some things I goof around with. Anyway unless someone crosses the TOS I guess there is nothing to do about it besides ignore it.

And actually when I was first here, I had already sent in my petition(K-1) but was asking about the next steps. I had very helpful responses, never had a scary one!! I don't remember a lot of scary, maybe I just missed it. That was early 2004. Now there is lots and lots of scary!
