There is no record of me having chicken pox as a child or being vaccinated against it. Therefore I have to have it.

But do you personally recall, or does your parent recall you having chicken pox as a child? Do you have any scars? They don't need to see documented proof for chicken pox. They will accept your word for it.

There was no record of myself, my spouse, or my two children having it either (although I was ready with photos of spotty children just in case we were asked!). We weren't even asked about it in London, the box was just ticked to say we didn't need it.

What's a record? I can show you my chickenpox scar on my stomach. That's all I had to show to the doctor years ago.

I was referring to my medical records. I don't have a chicken pox scar and I don't remember ever having the disease. My mother does not remember me having it either. I could ask about having a blood test to check my immunity. I read in several places you should not have the varicella vaccine soon after having MMR.

No scars and no recollections.

The form I have from Visa Medicals says a number of things. One thing it does not say is "They will accept your word for it"

Here is what the form from Visa Medicals says:

*Varicella - Documentation of previous infection/immunity screen

OR commence course

OR documentation of Shingles virus

Yep. But just saying we were never asked for it, the box was ticked as a matter of course.

It is well known from experience, that they will accept a recollection of having chickenpox, and observe evidence of scars for confirmation. Having chickenpox in your life will exclude you from requiring the vaccine in the first place. Certainly one should not lie if one has never had chickenpox in their life, and should seek out a vaccine for health reasons, but for the UK medicals, all that has been observed is that if you have had it, they do indeed take your word for it.

I have no recollection of having had chicken pox. My father and mother don't remember it either. I have no scars.

The presumption has to be that if you didn't have it then you need a vaccine. As you say it is not a good idea to lie.

I had Chickenpox as a child.

I remember having it

It was on my medical records.

Just wait and see if you're asked about it, you may not be.

If you are then you can ask for a titre test to see if you have immunity - chances are you do. If we were asked that's what we'd have done, as none of us had any mention of it on our medical records or proof of having had it, just the knowledge that we had.

Visa Medicals WILL ask you for a summary of your medical history and an immunisation record.

At the end of my medical I had a short discussion with a nurse about my vaccination history.

You are given documentation that tells you VERY CLEARLY what you need to do next.

Not everyone does have it on their medical records though. It wasn't on mine but I remember having it

This happened with me at the end of my medical as well. I also asked them a few questions to make sure as well

What kind of proof do they ask for? Any? Or did they just accept what you said?
