im not trying to seem defensive, i just find it rude and insulting to insinuate that only women who marry MENA men are gutzy. And thats fine that it was posted in MENA, i can guarentee you if i had posted the same thing saying "only women who marry and move to european countries are gutzy" I would have been flamed big time by MENA women

 The idea struck me as rather conceited as well:

Have you noticed that this board is a little more animated and full of action than the other forums? Why is that? I think it takes a little bit of guts to go to MENA countries for the average american and to embrace a new and exciting culture. I think the women that marry mena men and meet them in their countries are a little more gutsy than some of their friends. To go on a plane half a world away, especially one engulfed in controversy ( world politics and opinion) perhaps takes a little bit of a spitfire. How have your friends and families reacted to all the phoning, planes, traveling and changes in you as a mena marrying woman? I often wonder about this.

Most of this is not at all specific to "ME/NA women," nor is it any kind of evidence that they're necessarily any "gutsier" than anyone else on VJ. I mean come on, the vast majority of people on this site had to travel long distances by plane to visit a different country, often a place with a different language and "exciting new culture," and also had to suffer the "painful throes" of stress and separation.

If you want to talk about visiting "controversial areas" or "trouble spots, ok... but MENA doesn't even have that on exclusive lockdown. I guess what I'm saying is: please stop trying to exalt and romanticize women who go to ME/NA countries as somehow more generically "exciting" than any other woman on this site. Some ME/NA gals are actually quite borrrrrrring. And some of those gals in the Canada forum are WILD I tell you.... just WILD! :jest:

I feel that the women who are truly gutsy are the ones who embrace the culture by going and living in the MENA country with their man. Not too many people are willing to do that. Now that takes guts!!!! And true love.

I've been in approximately 35 different countries including MENA ones. I don't consider it that gutsy when as an American you know if there is trouble all you've got to do is get to the nearest embassy or consulate.

Some how this doesnt surprise me, but my opinion being, just bc your SO is from MENA, it doesnt make you any more gutzy than our SO's being from europe or asia or south america or anywhere else around the world and going there to our men/women. Going anywhere outside of your comfort zone of your own country is gutzy, i dont care where it is.

I think you're being a bit defensive. This thread is in the MENA forum, which is why this topic is being disucssed as it relates to MENA.

I really don't think that when Teacher said, "I feel that the women who are truly gutsy are the ones who embrace the culture by going and living in the MENA country with their man. " she somehow meant that going to live in a non MENA country is not gutsy.

And this is a public forum, mena or not, i gave my opinion. i dont have to be part of MENA to do so :)

and im not trying to seem defensive, i just find it rude and insulting to insinuate that only women who marry MENA men are gutzy. Yes, it's a public forum and no you don't have to be a part of MENA to do so. I was only trying to say that I didn't interpret the statement in the same way that you did. Like if someone said, "I think people who do X are really gutsy", does not necessarily imply that people who do not do X are not gutsy.

But I guess you don't see it that way, so ok.

i understand your point as well, but i was going off of all her posts about it, not just the one i highlighted. example: the quotes wife_of_mahmoud placed

How many MENA women go to other forums to post? I would guess more people come here to MENA to jump into threads rather than the other way around. I know most of us don't even go to OT let alone other regional forums.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Yeah, haven't been to OT in months, and never plan to go back. This is my point, most do not go anywhere but MENA, and none go to other regional forums to jump in on the convos.

No, it has to do with the accusation that MENA women would go to another forum and "jump all over" a statement about gutsy-ness.

well...if i started a thread and stated "all women marrying men in europe are more gutzy than other women" you better bet someone from mena or anywhere other than europe would jump all over that.

theres nothing bad about it, you dont have to be so offended about it. and if you dont go to other regions or ot thats great, but i like to go thru everything and if i see something worth commenting on, i will.

Well, I don't know if anyone considered my trip to Jordan gutsy, or just plain crazy. LOL So many told me that I would not be treated well there, that they wouldn't let me come back home, etc.... I was amazed that I had the nerve to get on the plane for the first time in my life for a 14 hour flight....now that took guts on my part, just getting over my fear of flying. The rest of it was a breeze.

My life has been blessed with the love of 4 of the sweetest men in the world. James, Jonathan, Nicolas, and Islam, my sons and my S/O.

OPSSSSSSS I DID IT AGAIN!
