NVC to Ankara

I'm totally stoked. My petition was only at NVC for 8 days. Considering that my fiancee is coming from Iran, I was VERY concerned about extensive background checks there. Hopefully there is only the last few checks at Ankara and we are thru. Does anyone know if the foreign embassy sends a letter acknowledging that they have received our petition????

THANKS

In the case of K-1 Visas, the NVC does not do background checks before sending the case onto the Embassy. They just assign a case number and send it to the appropriate consulate. The background checks will be done by the consulate handling your case.

When the case is received by the Embassy, they will send out their version of "Packet 3".

Maybe I used the wrong terms. I know of many members whose K-1 petitions were stuck in "Administrative Review" at NVC and not touched for months. I'm relieved that it has passed another checkpoint though I'm certain there are checks to come.

Congratulations on your petition going to the embassy. K1s are usually in and out the door at NVC. You SO will have the security checks done in their country where the visa is processing. Depending on the sex of the person you may have AR/AP after your interview so take and prepare yourself mentally since this person is coming from a T26 country. Maybe you will not endure this but it is good chance. Good luck and stay positive during your journey.

I think they have something called Administrative Review which is like a background check. Potentially VERY time consuming. I believe that we should just have the standard security clearance checks in Turkey now.

Hi,

There is security check at the NVC level. My fiance is also from Iran and we are going through Germany since he has lived there for the past 6 years. I think this is a very good news for you that you didn't have check at the NVC level. I have to agree with Mary, depending on the sex of the person, the security check might take longer or be very quick. If the fiance is female there are minimal back ground checks. I know of 3 cases, all females fiances from Iran, that took a total of 6-8 months to get their visa.

You might have security check at the consulate level. But Like I said since your case wasn't long at NVC take it as a good sign. Take heart, be positive and stay strong.

Good Luck on your journey.

Thank you Yasi. My fiancee is a 23 year old female, so I'm hoping for the best. I have a lawyer who estimated 6 to7 months, so I guess we are on target.

Best wishes to you.

You're welcome...

Although I dont have much advice to offer on your particular consulate, Im still happy to hear your visa is moving along at a good clip. It's always nice to see. Congratulations on getting this far, and I wish you the best for the rest of your visa process. :)
