I think it is sad, especially for the younger ones who are greatly influenced. I also think that there is so much misinformation out there on how to be healthy and thin. If you talk to a nutritionist or a professional athlete, they will tell you that you need to put food in your body in order for you to lose weight healthily. The unfortunate outcome in many of these young kids situations is that because they have deprived their body of nutrients, they have suffocated and damaged their body's organs. Many will have a lifetimes worth of health problems because of the strain they put on the internal while starving themselves or being bulimic.

spot on..good post and true

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I grew up in a family of 'meaty' people (not fat). So I never understood that being thin was supposed to be beautiful. All the women (older than me) in my family have curves and they are beautiful. I remember when I was in 7th grade (12 years old!) that one of my best friends who was much smaller than me complained that she was fat and was always dieting and I thought it was disgusting. Things like "I wear a size 7, I'm a cow, I need to be a 2" really p!ss me off.

Also, I get compliments from random strangers about being beautiful! And I assure you I'm not wasting away like Kate Moss. I eat more than most men I know. That goes to show you one thing- and that's that normal men aren't even attracted to the 'on the edge of death' thin look. I think it's sad that the media keeps telling us its fabulous though. -_-

I suffered from bulimia when I was a teenager. It wasn't even like I was wanting to be bulimic, it sorta just happened. I had something very tragic happen to me when I was 15 and just that experience in itselp made me quite ill to where I was vomitiing all the time in which I started losing weight. Also looking back I can remember all the negetive comments about how I looked while growing up. I remember when I was 16 my grandma was making a skirt for me and had to measure my waist. When she measured, she said "25 inches.....we're getting a little chunky now aren't we?" When others commented on it (especially the boys) my stupied little teenage mind thought that was the way to go. I was never what I would consider overweight, but growing up on a farm I was built and quite stocky from muscles and hearing all the comments was a big ego trip. Of course since I loved food this seemed like an easy way. I started getting help when I was about 20. Now even though I could stand to lose about 15 pounds I've learned to be happy with myself and how I feel. I do still have problems when I do get the stomach flu and am vomiting. I HATE to vomit!!!! And there's always this little voice in the back of my head telling me I could lose those extra pounds quickly if I wanted. It took me a while to learn to care about what I think about myself and not what others think. I also stress to my daughter how beauty is on the inside of a person and try to be an example of healthy eating and exercise. I would hate for anyone to go through what I went though.

Anorexia and bulimia are indeed sad and destructive diseases. Why they happen I don't know. It's like asking someone "Why are you an alcoholic?" No answer to that one. My heart goes out to those young girls "dying to be thin". I can only pray they get the help they need. Life is too short.
