DCF London - exceptional circumstances for self-employment

Hi everyone! I'm new here, so please point me in the right direction if this has been discussed already.

My husband (US citizen) is self-employed and needs to go back to the US to be closer to his clients. I'm a UK citizen. Does anyone here have experience using DCF for exceptional circumstances without a letter from an employer? Can he write his own letter? Any advice gratefully received!

I’d write the letter and explain your circumstances and hope for the best. It’s at the discretion of the embassy. I think you need a clear concrete reason. I.e. “My spouse’s largest client has a project that requires him to be physically present to oversee implementation. This is a long term project expected to last 5 years.” I wonder if a letter from a client would be better than one he produced himself.

I think the further you stray from the examples they provide, the worse your chances. Any chance one of his clients might bring him in house?

There was a guy in Germany who was starting an advanced degree program that was denied DCF.

It may just be the luck of the draw of whose hands your letter ends up in.

What is his status in the UK

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
