Colorado's Legal Pot Boom Goes Bust

 

Colorado's legal marijuana business is at least one toke over the line as a massive decrease in sales has led to store closures and layoffs across the state.


Politico recently reported that Denver's 3D Cannabis dispensary, where Iraq War vet Sean Azzariti became the first person to legally buy recreational marijuana, has "temporarily closed."  But the boards on the doors and windows and the dismal state of the parking lot make the closure appear much closer to permanent.  [...]

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I remember driving East on I70 right a year or so after CO legalized pot, and from the Utah border all the way to Denver, it seemed that every exit had a pot shop.  I suspect the cartels are playing a role allowing people other outlets that may be cheaper, or some may be growing their own.

Aging yuppies in neon beachwear stand before a green wall with the catchphrase “You have changed ... so has cannabis.”

The social media post is part of “Real CA Cannabis,” a $5-million taxpayer-funded campaign to promote California cannabis as safe, tested and “regulated by the state to protect consumers.”

In reality, that safety is far from certain.

An investigation by The Times, in conjunction with cannabis industry newsletter WeedWeek, found alarming levels of pesticides in cannabis products available on dispensary shelves across the state, including some of the most popular brands of vapes and pre-rolled weed.

 

Colorado, well not me area of expertise but I can ask and find out.

 

My assumption is that most of the legal pot shops are used by tourists and those for whom price is not an issue. I assume it is more normal to have your local retailer.

 

I know people who know so will ask.

With stuff like this, you can never really be sure what's in it, or how (un)scrupulous the people who grew it and brought it to market are.
