no, it does not.  the usa is a republic, not a democracy.  majority rule is not how things work in the usa.

Ok so what is the point of public votes?

Absolutely does not need to go, imo.  Many Americans do not understand the importance of our electoral college system or the importance of STATES rights which were established in the Constitution.  There is no national election for President.  There are 51 separate elections.  We are a union of 50 individual states and the District of Columbia. A popular vote across the entire union would diminish the votes of less populated rural states.  Without the Electoral College, Presidential candidates could campaign in only a few states......because the votes and the opinions of voters in less populated areas would be worthless.  I believe there is no better system, than the Electoral College,  for our union of 50 states.

Note:  When someone says, "Candidate X is leading in the popular vote", just remember, it is meaningless because there is no real "popular vote".

- My opinion

Here is an opinion article which explains why we should keep the EC.

Killing the Electoral College would turn rural Americans into serfs (usatoday.com)

"Should rural and small-town Americans be reduced to serfdom? The American Founders didn’t think so. This is one reason why they created checks and balances, including the Electoral College. "

"The Electoral College requires more than just the most raw votes to win — it requires geographic balance. This helps to protect rural and small-town Americans."

What is the benefit of public votes in general elections?

I disagree about eliminating the electoral college.  I know, the election denying Democrats and their MSM allies will say it is all about the popular vote, it is not.  The President represents the federal government which is made up of the states, and the people in those states.

As to who to vote for, I am firmly in the camp of Anyone But Biden.  I haven't decided yet, but most likely will vote for Trump over the corrupt Biden since voting third Party is really a vote for Biden, and I cannot do that.

Is there a point for public votes in general elections?

Lower taxes, lower gas prices, lower grocery prices, less political persecution of political opponents, and a more secure border would help me.  I couldn't care less about mean tweets.

So who you got?

Yes in that it decides how the State will vote.  Kind of similar to a parliamentary system.  We also vote directly for our House and Senate members.  Initially, Senators were chosen by the state houses, but the 17th Amendment changed that.

What if congress votes differently than State results on public voting?

There’s only one candidate promising to be your “retribution.” I’m not sure persecution of political opponents is going to get better.

If you think inflation is bad now, just wait and see what 10% across

the board tariffs, mass deportations, and more tax cuts do

It is due to higher food and electricity prices.

I would argue that there are better ways to distribute tax cuts that don’t skew so heavily towards the wealthy.

It depends. I don’t want the Trump tax cuts to end which saved me money. Also, looking to get cheaper healthcare than what we have for ACA.

It’s all good. I am neutral and respect what others believe it.

Does your employer offer healthcare? They will often pay at least a portion of your premium. They can also have you pay with pre-tax dollars, which means that these plans are actually less expensive than ACA plans that have a lower premium.

Yes they do and it’s pre tax but I plan to financially retire early way before Medicare. Employer offers health insurance after retirement but not sure if it will be cheaper than ACA.
