Hi all

I came to the US as a student and I got a job with a company which sponsored me for h1b visa. currently I'm still in the US and I wanted to apply for Green card.

I have a brother who has been here more than 15 years and who is a citizen.

My question is, should I apply for green card through my brother or through work? which one is faster?

Please provide me with some information

Thanks

GET IT Through your Work visa.

If you try through your brother it can take up to 20 years of waiting for a visa number to be issued, siblings are 4th preference for visa number priority.

Family Fourth Preference (F4): Brothers and sisters of United States citizens, and their spouses and children, provided the U.S. citizens are at least 21 years of age. (65,000)

Probably the work one is quicker, but that depends on what country you are from.

do you know how long does it take usually? I heard that there is a new process that takes 1 year and a half year. is that true?

how can I find out the time that it will take for my country

Thanks a lot

Family based immigrations, in your case through a sibling takes the same amount of time no mater what country, due to the I-130 filed for you by your sibling being held by USCIS and NVC until a visa number is alloted based on your priority, in this case siblings have the lowest priority, and it takes YEARS AS IN DECADES to get a visa number.

Your best option is to get the green-card through your employer.

Just as long as it take others dealing with the adjustment of status process.

A link to the I-485 process from I-140.
