Hello everyone

my mom’s case (IR5) is DQ but I got this msg from NVC

"The income reported as stated on form I-864 is insufficient to overcome the public charge grounds of inadmissibility for visa issuance. To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 from a joint sponsor may be submitted. For more information visit https://nvc.state.gov/aos and https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p. A consular officer will decide if you meet these requirements at the time of the interview. Note: You, as the sponsor, and any other sponsors household members and joint sponsors, must provide updated or additional evidence for the applicant to present at the time of their interview such as: * Other income * Assets * Proof of current employment Note: You submitted documentation to the National Visa Center through the Consular Electronic Application Center CEAC. You can continue to upload documents to CEAC up until the date of your visa interview."

my husband was a joint sponsor with me and he has a good income and we are sure that our income is way above the poverty line

maybe I haven’t submitted my 2023 taxes yet I have only gave them the IRS extension letter??!

Several sites online give info about insurance

here's one

https://www.obamacare-plans.com/?_ci=30241039&_ai=&_d=c;CQ0-3n1teJDpzIT3DJe2Z3Of47CyGNrRs9eC15gBCfO9jjG4_eW9xCgj6eQseUMSxfyJqOED0-s_vFSJfMLDAS8hckT1eg&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlajajv_YhgMV9XJ_AB2fgAXiEAAYAiAAEgI5efD_BwE

U still need the 2023 income taxes done and sent to NVC

and both u and husband do the I 864

you can provide assets according to I 864 instructions but current income is the key

Should we submit the i864 again

we have already submitted them

or just 2023 tax returns?

If you already submitted the affidavit of support, all you need to submit is your 2023 taxes, it is best to get an IRS transcript from the IRS website, it is free and online and then you can download the transcript and upload it to CEAC.

My mother-in-law is 71 and just arrived in the United States last year.  She has no medical issues.

Since she has never paid into Medicare, she is not eligible for Medicare for at least five years.

In Nebraska, she was "evaluated" and determined not to be eligible for Medicaid, again for at least five years.

Neither my wife or my health care insurer would allow us to add her to the policy.  "Parents" are not dependents as far as they are concerned.

So we went through the healthcare.gov marketplace.  The *cheapest* option we found cost about $700 per month.  This provides her basic health care coverage.  We'd still have a lot of out-of-pocket if something happened to her.  I saw other polices that went as much as $2,000 per month.

I also looked at programs that would provide her with "travel insurance" including the extended "stay" in the United States.  The best of those were still $300+ per month.  And you could make an argument that if she's an LPR she shouldn't be "visiting" the U.S. for insurance purposes.  If something happens, I promise you the insurer would do just that to avoid paying any claims.

You certainly have the option of not getting her health insurance.  There are all sorts of horror stories on the Internet about what happens in the U.S. if you have money and no insurance.

We plan to wrap her in bubble wrap anytime she goes out.

Regards,
Vicky's Mom
