Ok.... so I've heard that my stuff has to go through the border after me. I get that part. Now, since we are DCF, all the furniture is really Bren's, so we wonder if it can go through before we do (as a returning USC's property). What is your experienced take on this one? I'm sure zyggy will have something to say here!!!!

Thanks, Len.

And another little detail. Interview is sept. 26, but we know we will not have visa in hand (note my positive "I will get the visa" thinking) until say October 4 or so. Hence, we will try to convince our landlady to let us stay for another week in the apartment. Otherwise we would send the stuff (and Bren with it if need be) and crash at a friend's place for those 8 days.... sooooooo, if that's what happens, should I give MTL a change of address? or should I just put the "crashing address" in the express-post envelope?????

My wife lived here for a year and half she had no trouble moving back with all of our stuff. She was let through the border (Queenston/Lewiston border crossing) with no hassle. She had both her stuff that she brought from North Carolina when she moved and all of my stuff I had before she moved to Canada.

Put your crashing address on the Xpresspost envelope if you move.

Good luck

bumped for Len and Bren! Someone's got to have the answers. :) I tried looking but couldn't find anything. You may want to give CBP a call though.

I do know that you need to fill out "CBP Form 3299 - Declaration for Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles" but not sure if you can send it before Bren crosses or not. All I can find is reference to shipping it AFTER you and Bren cross, not before but CBP is the best place to get an answer, so give them a call. :)

Hi,

This was my answer from the other thread you posted in, not sure if you saw it :)

(Len_and_Bren @ Aug 9 2007, 10:33 PM)

(zyggy @ Jun 25 2007, 06:38 AM)

2) Your good cannot be entered into the US before the owner of those goods does. Meaning your mover will not ship the goods until they have two things in hand.. The first is a completed CBP Form 3299 and the second is a copy of either a validated I-94 or the validated CR-1 visa to show that you have entered the US.

Oh Wise man.... what if the stuff is the property of the USC (Bren)? Can it then go before he does?

I need your advise you folks.... contribute to ameliorating my insanity plzzzzz

My understanding of zyggy's post was that the goods can't enter the US before the owner does - however it's was based on the fact that they (as in the immigrant) will not have any status in the U.S. until their visa is validated.

As Bren is already a USC, he should have no problem shipping his stuff. When my Sister shipped her stuff all the shipper asked for was documentation that she was 'allowed to be there' (she is a USC). In fact their stuff would have crossed the border before them if it hadn't been for the truck being stopped at the border because the shipping company forgot to get photocopies of their documents.

I would recommend calling the border patrol if you would like further reassurance.

Hey Len

I just saw this. as far as reimporting USC's belongings -not sure but would be interested in hearing what you find out. I've been trying to figure out what we need to do with my car which was an American car that I imported into Canada but now we need to re-import (repatriate?) it. I still have the WY title for the car so have considered just renewing the WY registration-really don't know if that is somehow illegal.

but the express post envelope can be sent to any address you want. the hubby had his sent to the office because he's never home when the mailman comes and it had to be signed for. the consulate people had no problem with that.

Thanks my friend. Bren seems to think the re-import of the car is not "that" complex - but you need to have thecar tuned-up, etc. He still has the UT title for it (he was @ Salt Lake City before moving here). I will keep you posted in what I find.

Right now I am freaking out because our alley is too darn small for the moving trailer (UPACK) and I'm going insane. AAAAAAA

If your stuff is going with you when you cross, you don't have to list everything but you should to make life easier for CBP if they ask (it's less likely they'll rummage through your stuff if you're prepared with a list).

The list doesn't have to be complex, just break it down to things like:

- clothes, approximate value

- books, approximate value

- CDs, approximate value

etc.
