Canadians moving to the US guide, summary and conclusion

I have been trying to find enough answers/information regarding many questions. I found some answers after extensive research, however, the experience and exchange of information makes it easier. While there is a pinned outdated thread with many broken links. I decided to start this thread
I will start by what I have:

General travel information:

Are you a Canadian citizen?  If so, the ESTA information is not applicable; Canadians are not getting ESTAs.

Importation fees are also different when immigrating.  Visitors information (ex. Snowbirds, etc.) will not be applicable to most immigrants)

Yes, a Canadian citizen. I have not traveled by land so I thought we need to get this done!

You can search some more, but pretty much everything you've said in your first post is not applicable to Canadians/immigrants.

I don't have the time or energy to do the research for you, but I felt it was necessary to point out that it wasn't accurate so that you, and others, don't rely on your post.  

 

You want to search for information applicable to immigrants, not visitors.

That is not the thread I talked about in my first post! even the thread you mention was last updated May 17th 2021. Today is June 10th 2024!

While it is true Canadian citizens do not need an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) to enter the United States by land. ESTA is required for citizens of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries traveling to the U.S. by air or sea, but Canadians are generally exempt from these requirements due to the unique agreements between the U.S. and Canada. The information is still valid VWP travelers.

While your intentions may be good, it is confusing when you mix information.  Visiting the US has different requirements to emigrating to the US.  You stated you wanted to create a thread about Canadians specifically but went on to describe the VWP, which isn't relevant to Canadians and only impacts visitors from VWP countries entering the US.  This mix of information is extremely confusing.

I did not know about this specific and I can not edit the OP any more so the only thing is to clarify that VWP travelers are not Canadians. I intended to update and collect information for Canadians who intend to travel to the US so they can for example decide the best way to travel its cost, time, ...etc
