As a Petitioner in the USA, do I need to get anything from the police department regarding my record? Or the background check they do is sufficient.

My Fiance is in a group of other filipina K1 beneficiaries and they are telling her I need to get a police certificate. It makes no sense to me as a full background check was ran in the very beginning. I figured I would ask the experts here what they think. Getting my record printed out requires an appointment, some money, and fingerprints. I would rather not do it if I do not need to. Thank You

You do not need a police certificate.  Ask them to provide an official source for needing it.

Perhaps they are confusing police reports and arrest/court records (if you have been arrested).

Thank you. I really appreciate the reply. I don't know what they are confusing lol, but my background was pulled completely in the very beginning of the process.

Yes.  Both USCIS and the State Department run their own background checks during the process.

Who are "they" and how specifically was she notified of this requirement??

(I'd hazard to guess that notification of this requirement arrived via Facebook group chat)

You don't need a certificate, your fiance does.

for beneficiaries in the Philippines, I believe it's mentioned that it's possible they will ask for police or fbi clearance for the CFO counseling interview, which by my understanding is the last step of the process for those going through the process from PH.

i'm not completely read-up on what the CFO process is, but my fiancée was also asking me about clearance because she's being told its needed by other filers on various FB Messenger groups.

When you look at the CFO website, it mentions a police clearance but it does not state it is for the petitioner. I think this causes some confusion for them. What I did was just did an online background check so I can send her with that. They obviously checked our backgrounds front to back when we applied and without us having a clean record, there would be no CFO appointment. I think this is where a lot of the confusion comes from. I have seen on this site on a few other threads that one was needed lol. You would think if it is necessary it would say SOMEWHERE that its needed, USCIS, Dept of State website etc.
