Current income or 2023 income?

Hello everyone,

I have my K-1 visa interview soon in Montreal Canada, and I'm concerned about my co-sponsor's past business losses affecting our approval. He earned 37k in wages/w2s, but lost 23k from business income.

 

He now has stable employment at a dealership and a current salary of $54,860 per year (household of 3) which I will be able to show employment verification and pay stubs. He also no longer owns that business and is not subject to further losses from it. 

 

How much weight does the consular officer typically give to past financial history versus current income?

Current income, and the prospect of that job continuing in the future, is given a higher weight than past income.
