Information about US passport for my children

Hello everyone

I’m a US citizen and military service member. I have two children, 7 and 3; they got IR2 Visa. When they come to the United States, do I need to pay a Green card fee before getting a US passport?

No, don't pay the fees. Just bring them to post office and apply for their passports (check for appointments ahead of time and bring your naturalization certificate). All other passport requirements for minors are listed on travel.state.gov under passports.

I never said that. You'd want to get your children certificate of citizenship after you receive their passports. Look over the form on uscis.gov.

Please I’m confused. Get the US passport for them, is it not same way they US citizens?

- No need to pay the the USCIS immigrant fee

- Apply for US passports for them, using your USC proof. Both parents need to be present at submission of application unless you have full legal custody.

- After you receive their passport, it is highly recommended that you also apply for N600 certificate of citizenship for them. This gives them additional proof of their citizenship which could come in handy in the future.

When you get a US passport, the Department of State will recognize the children as citizens.  USCIS does not.  When you file the N-600, USCIS recognize the children as citizens.  It's a bit strange, but ultimately, it's USCIS that has to recognize their citizenship for it to be "complete".

In addition to these points, passports have been issued to non citizens by mistake - it is not the definite evidence of citizenship.
