This is only relevant if either of you have been previously married, and are now either divorced or widowed.

I understand,  we both have been married before, both divorced.

I checked the letter I got from the consulate, and it does only request mine.

Obviously,  we did both submit our divorce certificates/decrees for the petition.

I asked my fiance for it anyway, it's always better to be overprepared than to be underprepared🙂

Not something to lose sleep about, IMHO.  US passports are valid evidence of citizenship, and only list the US state where the passport holder was born, not the city.    I have local friends here in Seattle whose city of birth listed on their Washington state BC is now technically incorrect because of neighborhood rezoning/annexing.

He just send me the confirmation page of his order, it literally says 3 to 6 months (i said 8, my bad) And the estimated delivery is going to be somewhere between august and november... 😳 Holy moly!
I need to prepare for long waiting times for anything in the US i feel🙈 im not used tot that at all!😂

To be fair, I'd say that is atypical for the US.  Each state is different.  If I were to order a certified copy of my BC, it would take 7-10 days.

Just adding to this that Springfield and Decatur are about 40 minutes apart from each other. Decatur is a smaller city, so a lot of people who were from Decatur may just say Springfield as its the closest "big city" - I live about 80 miles away from Springfield so I'm definitely familiar with the area. Where is he living now? In Illinois you can just go to the courthouse or county health department and get a birth certificate immediately.

I highly doubt any U.S. immigration official will get upset that a mistake was made in the city of birth of a U.S. citizen petitioner. It was not wilful misrepresentation and it is not material misrepresentation.

Also seconding what SalishSea said. A birth certificate taking months to arrive is not typical in the U.S.

When I ordered extra copies of marriage & birth certificates for my state, they all arrived within a week. Also, applying in person for a birth certificate can take as little as half an hour to get the certificate. So, for hopeful immigrants reading through this thread, please do not conclude months of waiting for a simple birth certificate is what you are by default doomed to experience.

I looked up Illinois's Dept of Vital Statistics website and it says requests by mail for certificates are taking 12 weeks for processing. No specific information on how fast VitalChek takes to process.

This is probably what happened. It is so close together, he picked the big city. However i am still stunned that one does not know where he was born!😂 I blame his ADHD 😜

He is stationed and living in Jacksonville, Florida. So its not like its a quick trip to the courthouse for him 😬 it is what it is i guess.

If it comes up during my interview i know what to say and how to explain. With that, he promised to write a short statement on his mistake for me to bring to the interview plus we will bring printed screenshots of conversations about this with each other and him with his mother. The BC is on its way, but by the time he will be able to send it its christmas 🤨

Lets hope the officer that interviews me has a good mood🙈

He requested a copy of his birth certificate, but it gonna take 3 to 8 months?... Im very confused by the amount of time this takes since in the netherlands i had a copy of mine within a week 😅

I dont think the consulate is going to overlook this one...

It depends on how it was requested most of my vital records I was able to obtain through this site: https://www.vitalchek.com/v/
Once state did not support this site and I was able to get it directly through them calling the county vital records office and they sent me the record.
All my records arrived to me within a week which should be the case as well for Illinois. Illinois does partner with vitalcheck to get an copy and it is fast and easy.

the one thing that is not listed above but is needed is proof of US residency like copy of DL or state ID

Question, Would his Military ID be good?

Your I-134 will likely get briefest of glances at the Embassy and the part they will glance are IRS Tax transcript, not finer points of US geography. Also neither I-129F nor I-134 are signed by beneficiary, so it is extremely unlikely to be an issue or brought up at all. If it is brought up, you know the answer, simple mistake that larger city was named instead of smaller near by city.
