What proof of nationality for the petitioner was submitted with the I-129F?

Did your fiance explain to you why the cities are different?  Have you asked?

Reason for these questions: if it comes into question during your visa appointment interview, then you can clarify.  Maybe he guessed it was Springfield because it's the state capital of Illinois, and didn't realized it specifies on the birth certificates the actual city of birth (Decatur).

Every state is different in issuance time, but as far as I understand it if your petition was approved without incident/RFE, then the proof of nationality for your fiance was already sufficient.

He submitted a copy of his passport with the petition and submitted Springfield at the place of birth question.

When he started filing the i-134, he said he needed to ask his mom what city he was born in because he wasnt sure and that he had brought it down to 2 options, Springfield and Decatur.

I then send him a picture of the place of birth he filed in the petition, which is springfield and He never mentioned it again.

Today i received the i-134 per mail and it said decatur, so ... if that whats his mom said then i believe that to be true.

I couldn't care less where he was born to be honest, his passport says Illinois and both cities are Illinois. I just hope it not going to be a problem during my interview

And indeed, our case was approved without RFE

am i worrying too much or is he not worrying enough?😂

It's a mistake, but it wasn't an intentional act of fraud.  You thought it was A and it turned out to be B.

At some point they will want to see the actual birth certificate.  That's the information they'll want to use...especially since there's a question about which one is correct.

One or both of you will do an an interview.  When you do, point out that it was originally reported as A, but the birth certificate actually says B, and provide a copy of the birth certificate.  They can fix it.

The only place I see both Springfield and Decatur are in the state of Illinois.  Illinois Department of Public Health says "...approximately 12 weeks from the time your paperwork is received."  It also appears that you can request the certificate directly from the County Clerk's office which might be faster.  Vital Check indicates that they can provide it even faster albeit with a lot more cost.

And no, this isn't the Netherlands.  12 weeks for normal mail processing sounds about right to me.  Eight months is too much.  (I've gotten one on the spot before, but I had to go directly to the State Department of Health and do it in person.  And that was years ago before identity theft became an issue.)

You're not screwed.  Just a little off-center.  But it's fixable.

Your fiancé should join us on here.  Much of what we talk about involving procedures is specific to the US citizen.

Regards,
Vicky's Mom

His birth certificate will not arrive in time, we fear. He has already requested one about 4 weeks ago, so maybe, just maybe he will get it in time but we dont think so.
He will now provide the textmessages he send to his mother to ask about it and the answer he got, and i will print the chatlogs of him and me talking about this mistake.

He honestly thought it was Springfield.

If they indeed do want to see the certificate, i hope the just put our case in the administrative processing until it arrived and i was able to send it in.

This would just be another delay like we have had many already.😅

That is odd.  A BC can be obtained in a matter of 2 or 3 days. Google birth certificate services.

Yes.  Just explain it at the interview....if it even comes up for discussion.

I agree with Crazy Cat.  You are worrying about this too much.  I remember looking over my original K1 petition and seeing a couple of errors related to birth places that I made in the petition.  They were overlooked and never even mentioned to me as the petitioner or my fiance (now wife) during the interview.

As others have said, you're completely fine.  Your fiance's citizen status has been proven and if there's any question about why the cities were different, you now know how to explain what happened to the officer.  He assumed the capital city, his mom cleared it up later.  Easy peasy.

You're going to do great at the interview, so take a deep breath and don't stress. <3

This is only relevant if either of you have been previously married, and are now either divorced or widowed.
