I can only answer from my own experience. Some people have suggested the poster is from the UK. It is difficult meaningful advice when he won't give his location, religion or cultural background.

True but quite normal.

We have to guess.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

In what way did i appear 16?

My girlfriend has said they can help

The way your post was worded implied you were a teenager.

Your girlfriend and her family will have to more than "help". They will be totally responsible for you. Think carefully about how everything will be paid for. I don't say that to be harsh. It is a question I have had to consider, in terms of my own situation, over the last few months.

I outstayed my welcome with my father and his new wife when I was your age. My solution was to rent a cheap room in some one's home in the neighbouring town.

You mentioned not having much money. Something else to consider is you will find it difficult, at least for a few years, to access college loans or vocational training for a trade. You might like to consider staying where you are for two or three years to pursue further training or education. That will help increase your earning potential if you do eventually move to the United States.
