Administrative Processing at NVC?

Has anyone had experience or know anything about the status “administrative processing” at the NVC stage, not after the interview?

Recently, we contacted the NVC about the status of our case. We contacted them in many occasions prior to this specific time to figure out our next steps since our case was accepted by the embassy for expedited processing, and this scenario is not common for everyone. We asked questions such as why it’s not possible to schedule a medical exam and if our case file was delivered to the embassy. In return, the overall answer is that we “need to contact the embassy to inquire our case further.” So our assumption is that our case file was sent to the embassy and we would have to reach out to them as per this email from the NVC last month.

We have contacted the embassy many times as well. The last guidance we received from U.S. Visa Information Services is to just wait for that “email with instructions.“ At this point we are confused because it has already been almost a month since our case was expedited, and definitely past the two week mark for the time it could take for our case file to be received by the embassy. So we reached out to the NVC once more to ask where our case is at.

Today we received a reply back from the NVC and they told us that our “…petition is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. You will be notified with further instructions when the processing is complete…” Now we’re really confused because how is it that we were told to contact the Embassy for guidance and yet it took us to contact the NVC for a status update?

Our status has not changed on the CEAC portal since then and it still says “at NVC”. We also checked CEAC’s Visa Status Check webpage and it still reads that we have to “submit requested documents”. It should not have to matter if we submit documents to the NVC because our case is to be handled at the Embassy level at this point. Is this a glitch? Are we missing something here?

We have submitted all documents anyways since May 20th but not DQ. Our understanding is that our case was supposed to be handled by the Embassy from now on since April and the NVC does not have a role in this process anymore. I’ve read many forum posts of administrative processing happening after the interview but not during the NVC stage. It is very odd that we had to contact the NVC to find out the status of our case when we were under the impression that the Embassy will be take over at this point. Also that our status on the CEAC website has not changed considering the NVC’s email notifying us that our “petition is undergoing necessary administrative processing.”

We actually received an email today. It came from the NVC saying that the Embassy in Tokyo approved our request for expedited processing. The Embassy will contact us soon to schedule an interview.

We sent our expedite request at the end of March and was approved for expedite a few days after around the beginning of April. Not sure how this happened but our case was at the NVC this whole time. It’s possible that they are done with administrative processing at this point.

That's good. Did you figure out what they did for administrative processing even before an interview?
