Options for extending Immigrant Visa Expiring Soon

Hi everyone, hope you all are doing well.

My mom has an immigrant visa (I-130) that expires in August. She still has some work to finish in her home country. Can her visa be extended? If not, can she come to the U.S. before the expiration, activate her LPR status, and then return to her home country to finish her work? What are the rules for re-entering the U.S. in this scenario?

Thank you so much for your help and advice!

Can her visa be extended? - A new visa would have to be issued based on a new medical examination.

If not, can she come to the U.S. before the expiration, activate her LPR status, and then return to her home country to finish her work? - Best option. This is what I would advice.

What are the rules for re-entering the U.S. in this scenario? - Just enter as LPR like all other LPR.

Hi, thanks for the response. Can she return immediately after entering the country? And how long can she be away?

Can she return immediately after entering the country? - Yes

And how long can she be away? - If she intends to stay more than 1 year outside, she will need to apply for a re-entry permit before leaving.

Thanks. So she doesn't need her physical green card right? Sorry for so many questions.

The visa in her passport acts as a temporary green card once it's been endorsed upon entry. It's valid for one year.

Once she enters, her stamped (endorsed) visa will/can serve as her green card for 1 year until she receives physical greencard.
